FPSA and Messe Düsseldorf extend strategic alliance.

FPSA's extended alliance with Messe Düsseldorf allows for cross promotion of the biennial PROCESS EXPO held in Chicago, and interpack, the world’s largest trade show for the packaging sector and related processing industries, which is held every 3 years in Düsseldorf, Germany. Messe Düsseldorf will be aiding PROCESS EXPO in the sale of booth space as well as promoting attendance to food processors around the globe, while FPSA will assist Messe Düsseldorf in the North American markets. ASTM Committee honors Dr. Darla Goeres.

ASTM International Committee E35 on Pesticides, Antimicrobials and Alternative Control Agents has presented the Chip Collins Award to Darla Goeres, Ph.D., assistant research professor of chemical and biological engineering at the Center for Biofilm Engineering, Montana State University. An alumna of Montana State and member of ASTM International since 2000, Goeres was honored for her innovation and contributions to development of E35 biofilm standards. ISPE announces recipients of 2013 International Honor Awards.

ISPE announced the recipients of its 2013 International Honor Awards at the Society’s Annual Meeting held in Washington, DC. Dr. John Berridge was honored with Joseph X. Phillips Professional Achievement Award, while Jean-Francois Duliere of Technip France was awarded the Max Seales Yonker Member of the Year Award. Stephen Tyler of AbbVie and Winnie Cappucci, retired from Bayer Healthcare, were both honored with Richard B. Purdy Distinguished Achievement Award. Read More

FAA and Industry Move Forward on U.S. Air Carrier training.

December 2, 2013

FAA Administrator Michael Huerta called on airline industry to assess and prioritize voluntary actions to improve pilot, flight attendant, and dispatcher training via joint government and industry steering group. This group would collaboratively evaluate best practices from across industry, review recommendations from previous FAA rulemaking advisory committees on training issues, and examine newly identified areas of risk to develop voluntary training guidelines for air carriers. IREC Responds to SGIP rule changes adopted by FERC.

December 2, 2013

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) adopted modifications to Small Generator Interconnection Procedures (SGIP), which should facilitate efficient interconnection process for small renewable generators. IREC's Jane Weissman called these rule changes "an important step forward for interconnection in the United States," and added that utilities will be able to process applications for small generators more effectively while maintaining safety and reliability of interconnection process. AAMA Fall Conference discusses ENERY STAR criteria.

December 2, 2013

During AAMA Fall Conference, Doug Anderson, manager of EPA's ENERGY STAR® program, provided insight into rationale EPA used in developing Version 6.0 of the ENERGY STAR for Windows, Doors and Skylights program. In response to stakeholder comments on Draft 2, EPA made adjustments in final draft, including extending implementation date to Jan 2015; adjusting window criteria for North-Central and South-Central Zones to 0.30; and adjusting skylight criteria in North and North-Central Zones to 0.48. NEMA White Paper explores molded case circuit breaker testing.

NEMA's published white paper, NEMA ADP 2-2013 Molded Case Circuit Breaker Systems Testing with Conductors, discusses necessity of testing circuit breakers with wire to demonstrate protection. As defined in UL 489, standard tests include overload and thermal tests, endurance followed by low level short circuit interrupting tests, and standard low level short circuit interrupting tests.
