Re-launched Ascouncil.org 2.0 includes updated job board designed to help members find qualified candidates for jobs within their companies. Service is free to members and will be promoted via Council’s e-catalyst and adhesives.org newsletters. Members can post job to include title, salary range, location, and general information about company and/or position. Test Method for Asbestos in Soil was approved by ASTM committee.

February 6, 2013

ASTM D7521, Test Method for Determination of Asbestos in Soil, covers procedures through which to identify asbestos in soil, provide estimate of concentration of asbestos in sampled soil, as well as provide concentration of asbestos reported as number of asbestos structures per gram of sample. This standard was developed by Subcommittee D22.07 on Sampling and Analysis of Asbestos, part of ASTM International Committee D22 on Air Quality. Read More

ANSI Standard addresses roadway and area lighting equipment.

NEMA published ANSI C136.23-2012 American National Standard for Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment—Enclosed Architectural Luminaires, which covers physical, operating, maintenance, and light distribution features that permit use of architectural luminaires in roadway applications. Standard covers side-mounted, square, rectangular, cylindrical, spherical, and other types of decorative and nostalgic styles considered to be significant deviation from cobra head style covered in ANSI C136.14. NEMA publishes standard for roadway and area lighting.

Updated to reflect current industry practices and include new lamp types, NEMA published ANSI C136.32 American National Standard for Roadway and Area Lighting–Enclosed Setback Luminaires and Directional Floodlights. American National Standard covers dimensional, maintenance, and electrical features that permit interchange of similar enclosed luminaires that have same light distribution classification or type used in roadway or area lighting equipment. ASTM Achieves Accreditation by Standards Council of Canada.

February 6, 2013

ASTM International announced that it has been accredited by Standards Council of Canada (SCC), signifying that ASTM meets all requirements for consensus standards development, set by SCC, which mirror principles of World Trade Organization: transparency, openness, consensus, and relevance. SCC audit was conducted November 6–8, 2012. In tandem with SCC's accreditation, ASTM established new ASTM International Canada Office in Ottawa that is to be led by Diane Thompson. Read More

IPC Releases PCB Industry Results for December 2012.

February 5, 2013

IPC announced December findings from North American PCB Statistical Program. For rigid PCBs and flexible circuits combined, industry shipments in December 2012 were down 14.5% and bookings decreased 7.5% compared to December 2011. Year to date, combined industry shipments were down 5.2% and bookings were down 2.4%. Compared to previous month, combined industry shipments increased 5.7% and bookings increased 19.1%. Combined industry book-to-bill ratio in December 2012 rose to 0.98. Read More

Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle Acquisition will aid NREL studies.

Four fuel cell hybrid vehicles - advanced (FCHV-adv), on loan from Toyota through 2-year Cooperative Research and Development Agreement, will help NREL enhance its research related to hydrogen fueling infrastructure, renewable hydrogen production, and vehicle performance. According to NREL's Keith Wipke, "Because the vehicles will be four or five years old by the time our two-year loan ends, we will also be able to observe extended durability and reliability." Industrial Demand Forecast projects growth during 2013/2014.

According to NAIOP Industrial Space Demand Forecast, U.S. industrial market is poised for significant growth throughout 2013 and 2014. Respectively, annual net absorption in 2013 and 2014 is forecast to reach 150 million and 175 million ft² – 50% and 75% above net absorption figure of roughly 100 million ft² posted for 2012. Robust growth is attributed to reduced risk of double dip recession as well as improving GDP and job growth. Predictive model is funded by NAIOP Research Foundation. Read More

ASTM D7834, Test Method for Filling Material Shedding of Paint Brushes, has been developed by Subcommittee D01.61 on Paint Application Tools, part of ASTM International Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials and Applications. Standard describes procedure for testing shedding properties of both natural bristle and synthetic filament paint brushes. Developed by Subcommittee D01.46 on Industrial Protective Coatings, part of ASTM International Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials and Applications, ASTM D7803 describes methods of preparing surfaces of hot-dip galvanized iron and steel for powder coating and the application of powder coating materials.
