ASTM Standards stress importance of particle size distribution.

Two proposed ASTM standards provide test methods for determining particle size. They include ASTM WK11776, Test Methods for Particle-Size Distribution (Gradation) of Fine-Grained Soils Using the Sedimentation (Hydrometer) Analysis, and ASTM WK38106, Test Method for Particle-Size Analysis of Soils Combining the Sieve and Sedimentation Techniques. Gradation is used to classify soils for engineering and agricultural purposes, since particle size influences how fast or slow fluids move through soil. Read More

Pavement Standard aids in profilograph simulation programs.

ASTM E2955, Practice for Simulating Profilograph Response to Longitudinal Profiles of Traveled Surfaces, presents procedures for profilograph simulation programs currently in use by U.S. FAA and U.S. FHA. The profilograph has become one of the most popular devices used for quality control in construction of pavements, with many airfield and highway agencies adopting roughness indexes computed from profilographs as a measure of construction quality. Proposed Standard covers forensics examination case reviews.

February 3, 2014

Proposed new ASTM International standard – WK23009, Guide for Case Review of Forensic Examinations – will provide procedures to be used by professionals conducting case reviews of forensic examinations. Currently being developed by Subcommittee E30.11 on Interdisciplinary Forensic Science Standards, standard will address differences between types of reviews regarding their strengths and limitations. On Feb 20, 2014, HI and Pump Systems Matter will unveil their latest educational training event, Power Plant Pumps - Maximize your Uptime & Reliability: 3-Part Webinar Series. Second and third sessions will take place on Feb 27 and March 6, respectively. Kraton Executive joins Adhesive and Sealant Council board.

ASC announces that Mark Plante, Director, North American Sales at Kraton, will join its Board of Directors effective immediately. Mark Plante is currently the North American Commercial Director for Kraton’s Adhesives, Sealants and Coatings division. He has been with Kraton for over 3 years, managing the sales and commercial aspects of business in North and South America. Prior to Kraton, Mark spent 8 years in Avery Dennison’s Performance Polymers Division as Global Sales Manager. Read More
