SME supports new Digital Lab for Manufacturing.

In support of President Obama’s National Network for Manufacturing Innovation, U.S. DoD has awarded $70 million grant to UI Labs to create the Digital Lab for Manufacturing. Lab will be part of consortium to develop, demonstrate, deploy, and commercialize digital manufacturing technologies. SME will offer its experience in areas of training, building competency, and overall workforce development to ensure workers possess knowledge and skills needed to adopt and utilize digital manufacturing. FAA Proposes Civil Penalty against Red Eagle Aviation.

March 5, 2014

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposed $90,000 civil penalty against Red Eagle Aviation of Kalispell, MT for alleged operation of Bell 206 helicopter when it was not in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations. Allegedly, Red Eagle operated said helicopter on numerous flights, including at least 80 revenue flights, from May 2011 to May 2013 without having performed required, periodic overhauls of tail rotor hub and main rotor mast assemblies. AIA Recommends Strategy concerning defense industrial base.

March 5, 2014

Testifying before House Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces on state of defense industrial base, AIA's Marion C. Blakey called for "smart choices" when addressing budget caps contributing to "a very challenging future." Blakey advocated for adoption of industrial base strategy that would "mitigate looming investment deficits and sustain the U.S. defense industrial base." She mentioned identifying and protecting "core, military-unique private sector capabilities." Read More

Fuji America hosts Congressman Brad Schneider.

March 4, 2014

Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) visited Fuji North America headquarters in Vernon Hills, IL to learn, first-hand, about policy and regulatory issues impacting the electronics manufacturing industry. Rep. Schneider’s visit to Fuji included a tour of the facility that supplies surface mount assembly equipment throughout North America. Congressman met with Fuji America executives and staff, and discussed issues such as export controls, R&D tax credits, and intellectual property protection. Read More

Valve Basics Education Course set for Kansas City.

Scheduled for April 2–3, 2014, VMA's Valves, Actuators and Controls 101 course brings together employees and supervisors of plants that use valves, actuators, and controls with distributors and sales reps who want to better understand the products they sell. Seminar consists of lessons that guide attendees through the world of valves and the systems they help control, starting with simplest types of valves and moving into more complicated automated products. This distinction honors engineers, age 30 or younger, for achievements which significantly impact public welfare or further professional development and growth. AEM Hall of Fame, according to Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), is accepting nominations all year long. While nomination deadline for 2014 inductees closes on June 6, 2014, nominations submitted thereafter will be considered for 2015 AEM Hall of Fame. Candidates are evaluated on 5 criteria critical to health of off-road equipment manufacturing industry: innovation, industry contributions, leadership, corporate citizenship/social responsibility, and sustainability.
