NTSB Calls on Metro-North to address recorders, speed signs.

Issuing safety recommendations to Metro-North Railroad, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) called for use of inward and outward facing audio and image recorders as well as installation of approach permanent speed restrictions signs along right-of-ways. NEMA supports accelerated "single window" for trade.

NEMA welcomed President Obama's announcement that the U.S. will accelerate implementation of system to facilitate international trade in goods that meet U.S. safety, efficiency, and environmental standards. System is known as the "single window" and is administered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Expected to be fully implemented by 2016, International Trade Data System will allow traders to make single electronic report and relevant data will be distributed to appropriate federal agencies. EPA and Federal Partners advance decontamination techniques.

U.S. EPA and federal partners announced results of multi-year Bio-Response Operational Testing and Evaluation (BOTE) project, which tested and evaluated decontamination techniques for biological incident. According to EPA's Lek Kadeli, "information gained from this project gives communities tested decontamination methods and real world guidance to inform future response efforts." Project also examined associated costs of each method and expense of managing waste cleanup. Read More

PT/MC Industry Report shows slight growth at end of 2013.

PTDA Business Index reading of 60 for 4Q2013 is higher than 52 reading of 3Q13 index. While those surveyed in mid-2013 about 2014 outlook anticipated 5% growth, those surveyed in January 2014 anticipate 7% growth. Conducted by PTDA and Cleveland Research Company, report includes distributor and manufacturer breakout data in addition to historical data. It tracks change in business activity, new orders, employment, supplier deliveries, inventories, prices, and backlog in PT/MC industry. Read More

BIO Praises Passage of Small Cap Liquidity Reform Act.

BIO applauded House of Representatives for passing Small Cap Liquidity Reform Act (H.R. 3448), which builds on JOBS Act by increasing liquidity for emerging growth companies that trade on public market. Citing how said act will let companies choose appropriate tick size for their trading needs "and stimulate capital formation for breakthrough research," BIO's Jim Greenwood noted how legislation will accelerate development of cures and treatments for devastating and debilitating diseases.
