AIA is pleased with stable and steady investment in space.

According to statement made by AIA President and CEO Marion C. Blakey, AIA is pleased to see that President Obama's proposed budget request for NASA in fiscal year 2015 continues stable investment in space programs for nation’s future while also making key investments in aeronautics, science, and technology development. At $17.5 billion, request is nearly even with last year’s request and is a significant increase over the $16.6 billion NASA received in 2013 under sequestration. Read More

EPA sets cleaner fuel and car standards.

EPA finalized emission standards for cars and gasoline that will reduce harmful pollution and prevent thousands of premature deaths and illnesses, while also improving efficiency. Action will reduce standards for smog-forming VOCs and nitrogen oxides by 80%, establish 70% tighter particulate matter standard, and virtually eliminate fuel vapor emissions. Standards will also reduce vehicle emissions of toxic air pollutants, such as benzene by up to 30%, and reduce gasoline sulfur levels by more than 60%. Read More

FAA proposes $55,125 civil penalty against helicopter company.

March 10, 2014

FAA is proposing $55,125 civil penalty against Whirlybird Helicopters LLC of Ogden, UT, for allegedly violating DOT's drug and alcohol testing regulations. FAA alleges Whirlybird failed to conduct pre-employment drug tests on 8 employees prior to their being hired to perform safety-sensitive functions on company’s helicopters, which it uses in commercial air tour operations. Agency also alleges 3 of these employees were not in Whirlybird’s random testing pool as required by DOT regulations. Read More

AIA mourns loss of Dr. Assad Kotaite.

Universally known as master conciliator and consensus-builder, Dr. Kotaite served with the International Civil Aviation Organization for more than 50 years, including 30 years as elected President of the Council, making him the longest-tenured senior executive in the history of the United Nations. Dr. Kotaite’s dedication to the safe and orderly development of international civil aviation was a key factor in its phenomenal growth. NEMA publishes standards for panelboards and switchboards.

ANSI/NEMA PB 1.1-2013 provides general instructions for proper handling, installation, operation, and maintenance of panelboards, which are used in the distribution of electricity at 600 V or less with 1,600 A mains or less and 1,200 A branch circuits or less. Another standard, ANSI/NEMA PB 2.1-2013, provides general instructions for proper handling, installation, operation, and maintenance of deadfront distribution switchboards rated 600 V or less and 6,000 A or less.
