May 2014 MCI-EFI shows confidence at 2-year high for third month.

May 2014 Monthly Confidence Index for Equipment Finance Industry (MCI-EFI) shows overall market confidence at 65.4. While peaking at highest index level in 2 years for third consecutive month, this number is relatively unchanged from April's 65.1. Other conditions covered by this index include assessments regarding expected business conditions, demand for leases and loans to fund capital expenditures, access to capital to fund equipment acquisitions, and employee hiring. Titanium Metals Corp to pay civil penalty for TSCA violations.

Titanium Metals Corporation has agreed to pay $13.75 million civil penalty and perform extensive investigation and cleanup of potential contamination stemming from unauthorized manufacture and disposal of polychlorinated biphenyls at its manufacturing facility in Henderson, NV. Penalty is the largest ever imposed for violations of the Toxic Substances Control Act at a single facility. TIMET will also pay $250,000 for violations related to illegal disposal of hazardous process wastewater. Read More

Refinery Emissions Standards will protect nearby neighborhoods.

To protect nearby neighborhoods, U.S. EPA is proposing updates to toxic air pollution standards for petroleum refineries. Specific elements include monitoring and public availability of air concentrations of benzene around fenceline perimeter of refineries; upgraded emission controls for storage tanks, including controls for smaller tanks; performance requirements for flares to ensure waste gases are properly destroyed; and emissions standards for delayed coking units. Congressman Randy Hultgren tours Petroferm via IPC program.

Congressman Randy Hultgren (R-IL-14) visited Petroferm, a Vantage Chemicals business, at Lambent Technologies manufacturing facility in Gurnee, IL to learn about priority legislative and regulatory issues impacting electronics manufacturing industry. Hultgren was led around by Petroferm Cleaning's Dan Romani, who spoke on such policy and regulatory issues as export controls, R&D tax credits, and IP protection. Hultgren's visit was part of IPC's "Meet the Policymakers" program. Read More

NADCA applauds passage of R&D Tax Credit bill.

NADCA applauded passage by U.S. House of Representatives of bill making the Research and Development Tax Credit permanent. Sponsored by Reps. Kevin Brady (R-TX) and John Larson (D-CT), bill passed by vote of 274-131. NADCA and its members invest heavily in research and development to create new technologies and processes for lightweight applications, improving energy efficiency, and reducing lead times for procuring latest technologies. AIA supports lifting of export restrictions on space systems.

AIA applauds Administration's issuance of revisions to Category XV of the U.S. Munitions List that will end excessive restrictions on space systems, such as commercial satellites. After 6 month delayed implementation, interim final rule will remove many less sensitive technologies from USML and place them under more appropriate controls of Commerce Control List. Revision, together with re-authorization of Export-Import Bank by Congress, would dramatically level global market playing field. Read More
