Document Details Lab Test Method for operable windows/door forces.

AAMA has published AAMA 513-14, which sets standard laboratory test method for windows and doors to ensure they are ADA compliant. Last published in 2012, this document, which provides consistent and repeatable method of laboratory testing regarding operating forces of operable windows and doors, has been updated to include reference to CW and AW products as well as R and LC products. It also encompasses all doors included within scope of AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440 (NAFS). Read More

NAMRI/SME Paper addresses advanced manufacturing initiatives.

North American Manufacturing Research Institution of SME has announced position paper titled, "Advanced Manufacturing Initiatives: A National Imperative," that addresses current state of manufacturing in the U.S., makes several recommendations to drive economy, and offers support to various initiatives. Some recommendations include: establishing national advanced manufacturing strategy, tapping talent pool of returning veterans, and launching national manufacturing fellowships and internships. AEM Continues Push for Ex-Im Bank reauthorization.

AEM joined National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and U.S. Chamber of Commerce in signing letter to Members of Congress urging reauthorization of U.S. Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im) before its charter expires on September 30. Citing declining equipment exports, AEM president Dennis Slater said Ex-Im Bank reauthorization is "key to improving export shipments along with congressional passage of Trade Promotion Authority" as well as completion of specific trade agreements. SME Congratulates Dean L. Bartles on 2014 Martin K. Starr award.

SME congratulated its Vice President and Fellow, Dean L. Bartles, PhD, FSME, on receiving one of two 2014 Martin K. Starr Excellence in Production and Operations Management Practice Awards from Production and Operations Management Society. SME President Michael F. IPC Standards and Technology Division sees leadership change.

After 7 years of leading IPC's division of standards and technology, Dave Torp is stepping down. IPC President and CEO John Mitchell called Torp's contributions to growing and improving IPC standards activity "significant” and, on behalf of IPC Board of Directors and staff, thanked him for his "work, dedication and vision.” David Bergman, IPC vice president of international relations, will serve as interim vice president of standards and technology. NEMA publishes reinstated dry type transformer standard.

NEMA has published NEMA ST 20-2014 Dry Type Transformers for General Applications, which applies to single-phase and polyphase dry-type transformers for supplying power, heating, and lighting circuits, and designed to be installed and used in accordance with National Electrical Code®. Standard also covers transformers with or without accessories having ratings of 1.2 kV class, 0.25–4,000 kVA. NEMA ST 20 specifically addresses sound levels for these types of transformers. WA State Senator Liias named BIO Legislator of the Year.

BIO selected Senator Marko Liias as 2014 Legislator of the Year. In comment, BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood said Liias' work and leadership on critical issues "enabled biotech companies to bring life-saving and life-enhancing technologies to market." Chris Rivera, President of Washington Biotechnology & Biomedical Association, called Liias "a champion of Washington’s biotechnology industry" and "an invaluable resource for the biotechnology community."
