Proposed AM Standard to offer mechanical testing guidelines.

ASTM International Committee F42 on Additive Manufacturing Technologies is working on a standard that will be used to evaluate mechanical properties for additively manufactured materials. WK49229, Guide for Anisotropy Effects in Mechanical Properties of AM Parts, will serve as a guideline for using currently available standards for measuring mechanical properties, such as fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth, specifically within realm of additive manufacturing. SPE announces call for entries in Parts Competition.

SPE Thermoforming Division has announced call for entries in its annual Parts Competition, showcasing advances in thermoforming design and application. Entrants may submit parts in several categories: Roll-fed categories include Industrial, Medical, or Food; Heavy-gauge categories are Vacuum Form, Pressure Form, Twin Sheet, and TPO. Entrants may also submit parts comprised of recycled material, which include Value Added Assembly and represent Innovation. Submission deadline is July 31, 2015. Read More

NEMA Standard focuses on fittings for conduit and cable.

NEMA FB 2.20-2014 Selection and Installation Guidelines Fittings for Use with Flexible Electrical Conduit and Cable was amended to address possible incompatibility between cable dimensions and legacy MC cable fitting designs. Specifically, guidelines included within this NEMA-published standard provide installers and inspectors industry perspective of best practices in selecting and installing fittings for AC and MC cables, NM cable, FMC, LFMC, and LFNC that NEMA members manufacture. BIO Applauds Passage of American Research and Competitiveness Act.

BIO applauded House of Representatives for making Research and Development Tax Credit permanent by passing American Research and Competitiveness Act of 2015 (H.R. 880). FAA proposes $227,500 civil penalty against AmplaChem Inc.

FAA proposes $227,500 civil penalty against AmplaChem, Inc. of Carmel, IN, for allegedly violating Hazardous Materials Regulations. FAA alleges that on April 10, 2013, AmplaChem knowingly offered an undeclared hazardous material shipment to FedEx for air transport from Carmel to Vietnam. Shipment included Boron Tribromide, a corrosive material and toxic inhalation hazard that is forbidden from being transported aboard any commercial aircraft, and 2 other corrosive substances. BIO says EPA should reissue 2014 RFS Proposal.

May 26, 2015

In comments on proposed consent decree to resolve oil industry lawsuits against the agency over delays in finalizing the rulemakings, BIO said it is imperative that the EPA gets the administration of the annual Renewable Fuel Standard renewable volume obligations back on track. EPA should withdraw its proposed 2014 RFS rule and reissue it by June 1, 2015, to include advanced and total renewable biofuel volumes that are consistent with the RFS statute. Read More

U.S. settles with Marathon Petroleum Corporation.

May 21, 2015

U.S. EPA and U.S. DOJ allege that Marathon Petroleum Corporation failed to comply with certain Clean Air Act fuel quality emissions standards and recordkeeping, sampling, and testing requirements. Marathon will spend over $2.8 million on pollution controls to reduce emissions of VOCs on 14 fuel storage tanks at its distribution terminals in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. It will also pay 2.9 million civil penalty and retire 5.5 billion sulfur credits, which have current market value of $200,000. Read More
