NIST is set to support steering group for NSTIC.

NIST is soliciting proposals to establish steering group in support of National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC) and to provide group with ongoing secretarial, administrative, and logistical support. NIST anticipates supporting one proposal with approximately $2 million in funding for up to 2 years. Accredited institutions of higher education, non-profit organizations, and commercial organizations in U.S. and its territories are eligible. Read More

AAMA requests openness and transparency in regulatory process.

March 23, 2012

AAMA sent letter to U.S. House Judiciary Committee requesting approval of Sunshine for Regulatory Decrees and Settlements Act of 2012 (H.R. 3862). Legislation would require early disclosure of proposed consent decrees and regulatory settlements, providing affected parties with proper notice. Bill would also make it possible for affected parties to participate in settlement negotiations by requiring federal agencies to take public comment prior to entry of consent decree with court. ASTM Announces Chairperson of flexible barrier packaging committee.

Dhuanne Dodrill, president of Rollprint Packaging Products Inc., is new chair of ASTM International Committee F02 on Flexible Barrier Packaging. Member of ASTM International since 1996, Dodrill also serves on Committee D10 on Packaging and has 25+ years of experience in flexible packaging industry. She has held various technical, QA, and management positions. She joined Rollprint Packaging Products in 1982 and served as VP of technology and executive VP before assuming her current role. Online Forum to address standards for hydraulic fracturing.

March 23, 2012

On April 30, 2012, ASTM will host online forum to discuss coordination of standards activity relative to commercial scale hydraulic fracturing. ASTM has several technical committees whose scope and work activity is relevant to this topic. Open to public and free of charge, forum is an opportunity to expand preliminary discussions that have begun within several ASTM technical committees to see if there are other standards needs recognized by stakeholder community that ASTM could support. NIST releases technical guidance for evaluating EHRs.

NIST has outlined formal procedures for evaluating usability of Electronic Health Records systems. Proposed usability protocol encourages user-centered approach to development of EHR systems. It provides methods to measure and address critical errors in user performance before those systems are deployed in medical setting. Three-step process consists of an analysis of how application functions, expert review, and validation testing of user interface to make sure it works as intended. Read More

NTIA seeks public input on consumer data privacy issues.

March 22, 2012

In March 5 Federal Register notice, National Telecommunications and Information Administration is requesting comment on substantive consumer data privacy issues that warrant development of legally enforceable codes of conduct, as well as procedures to foster development of codes. NTIA seeks comments on what issues should be addressed, including mobile apps, cloud computing services, accountability mechanisms, online services directed toward teenagers/children, and trusted identity systems.
