Manufacturing Institute helps increase credentialed workforce.

The Manufacturing Institute and its partners announced significant progress towards achieving 5-year goal to award 500,000 industry-based credentials to individuals, positioning them for employment and advancement in manufacturing jobs. Over the past year, certification bodies partnered with The Manufacturing Institute have issued 84,738 certifications to students and incumbent workers that cover in-demand, portable skill-sets necessary across multiple manufacturing sectors. Jeffrey Goldfinger receives ASTM's Award of Merit.

Jeffrey Goldfinger, director of business development at L-3 Interstate Electronics, was recognized by ASTM Committee F38 on Unmanned Aircraft Systems for his outstanding leadership of standards activities that support global UAS community and heighten industry's safety and access to national airspaces. A member of ASTM since 2003, Goldfinger spent 20 years as a Naval Flight Officer in the U.S. Navy, is past chairman of F38, and received ASTM President's Leadership Award in 2009. Read More

SME Education Foundation announces 2012 grant recipients.

SME Education Foundation (SME-EF) announced funding of $100,000 for Project Lead The Way (PLTW) in order to upgrade Computer Integrated Manufacturing laboratories at 20 schools. Since 2006, PLTW and SME-EF have been working together to engage more students in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education. According to SME-EF CEO Bart A. Aslin, these efforts are made to give young people career opportunities by developing their advanced manufacturing skills. Read More

IPC Publication aids materials/process compatibility testing.

IPC-9203, Users Guide to IPC-9202 and IPC-B-52 Standard Test Vehicle, provides clarification between what manufacturer should and must do for demonstrating materials and process compatibility. Specifically, document helps OEMs alleviate materials and process problems and serves as guide to using IPC-B-52 SIR (surface insulation resistance) test board. Together with IPC-9202, IPC-9203 gives OEMs information to ensure minor changes do not cause problems in field. Read More

IPC President/CEO to accelerate services to support membership.

IPC's new president and CEO John Mitchell vows to help accelerate growth and services to manufacturers, companies, and suppliers that bring forth innovative technologies and products. In planning and preparing for IPC Board meeting on May 7-8, Mitchell will be reviewing IPC's strategic plan and starting to identify ways to meet goals set by the Board.
