Air and Waste Management Association (A&WMA) is seeking abstracts for its Symposium on Air Quality Measurement Methods and Technology, which will be held November 2-4, 2010 in CA. This conference will explore advances in measurement technology, data quality assurance, and data uses. NIST issues Framework for Smart Grid Interoperability.

NIST Framework and Roadmap for Smart Grid Interoperability Standards, Release 1.0, was issued to 700 engineers, scientists, and business and government executives. Document includes conceptual reference model to facilitate design of architecture for Smart Grid overall and its networked domains; 75 standards identified as applicable; priorities for additional standards, revised or new, to resolve gaps; and initial Smart Grid cyber security strategy and associated requirements. Workshop/Event addresses deepwater petroleum reservoirs.

AAPG-HGS Deepwater and Ultra Deepwater Reservoirs Geoscience Technology Workshop, to be held in Houston on March 16-17, will feature results from study which indicates that getting oil and gas out of deep-water reservoirs in Gulf of Mexico could be improved by closing technology gaps. ASHRAE recognized 48 people for contributions, including 2 in ASHRAE Hall of Fame, which honors deceased members who made milestone contributions to growth of HVACR technology. It presented F. Paul Anderson Award for technical achievement, and elevated 22 members to fellowship status. Also awarded were four 1st place ASHRAE Technology Awards and Lou Flagg Historical Award, John F. AED/AEM Campaign encourages Congress to work on highway bill.

As part of campaign called Start Us Up USA!, construction equipment industry leaders held rally at Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio. AED and AEM are seeking to draw attention to economic crisis facing construction equipment industry, as well as consequences of Congress' failure to reauthorize federal highway and transit programs. AEM Survey reinforces continued industry slump.

According to AEM's annual outlook survey, construction equipment manufacturers expect overall industry business to turn around slightly in 2010 following double-digit expected year-end 2009 declines in -40% range for U.S. and -30% range for Canada and other worldwide sectors. Survey respondents then anticipate stronger growth going into 2011, but not enough to erase severe 2009 business and job losses. Business in 2012 is then expected to level off. Read More
