Abstracts are being sought for AWMA's 103rd Annual Conference and Exhibition (ACE), which will be held June 22-25, 2010 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. BIO comments on EPA proposed Renewable Fuel Standard rules.

Brent Erickson of BIO said EPA's proposed rule and draft regulatory impact analysis yields uncertain estimates of biofuel affects on international land use change. In categorizing biofuel production, EPA should let biofuel producers estimate carbon footprint for plants by using analysis tool that can account for future improvement and innovation. Erickson also warned that failure to effectively use waiver provision and structure RIN allowances correctly will lead to market instability. Read More

AEM President supports 3-month extension for highway bill.

According to statement made by AEM President Dennis Slater, AEM joins U.S. Chamber of Commerce to urge Congress to focus on need to fund highway bill SAFETEA-LU and to adopt Representative Jim Oberstar's proposed 3-month extension of current highway bill rather than Senate's 18-month extension. Construction Equipment Workers still suffer from recession.

According to research conducted by IHS Global Insight, 8% of all jobs lost during the recession can be traced to construction equipment industry. Decreases were also seen in spending on construction equipment and economic output. To highlight relevant findings and rally support for government action, the Start Us Up USA! campaign, led by AED and AEM, aims to secure passage of adequately funded transportation legislation before the spring construction season begins in early 2010. It addresses requirements for blends of conventional aviation turbine fuel with synthesized hydrocarbon blend components, and defines types of aviation turbine fuel that may contain synthesized hydrocarbons for civil use in operation and certification of aircraft.
