AIA Praises Senate Passage of Ex-Im Bank amendment.

Citing support and global marketplace advantages of Export-Import Bank of United States, Aerospace Industries Association President and CEO David F. Melcher said AIA is "very pleased" regarding Senate passage of Transportation Bill with Ex-Im Bank Amendment. Melcher also urged House to include Senate Ex-Im language and "put an end to the acrimonious and unnecessary debate over reauthorization of an institution that House Republicans voted overwhelmingly to reauthorize only two years ago." North American PCB Business saw rebound in June 2015.

According to June findings from North American Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Statistical Program, IPC announced increases in sales and orders as well as strengthened book-to-bill ratio (1.06). Total North American (NA) PCB shipments increased 4.0% from June 2014, improving year-to-date (YTD) shipment growth to -0.8%. PCB bookings grew 13.7% compared to June 2014, increasing YTD order growth to 3.6%. NA PCB sales, in first for 2015, exceeded 2014's, and order growth was strongest in 8 months. Read More

Jerry Carrier honored with Award of Merit.

ASTM International Committee C15 on Manufactured Masonry Units has honored Jerry Carrier, director of R&D at Glen-Gery Corp. in Wyomissing, PA, with the Award of Merit. Committee C15 noted Carrier’s outstanding efforts in the development of ASTM standards related to manufactured masonry units of fired clay and shale, concrete, and sand-lime units. A member since 1987, Carrier has led several task groups that have resulted in development of important industry specifications. Read More

Presentations invited for ASTM's air quality workshop.

Presentations are invited for the ASTM International Workshop on Assessment of Air Quality Related to Hydraulic Fracturing Activities, which will take place Jan. 27, 2016. Workshop will focus on air quality issues potentially affecting the general public, as well as potential impact to workers at those sites, including respirable silica, benzene and other organics, and nitrogen oxides. NEMA published NEMA SBP 4-2015 Low Frequency Audible Signals, which addresses need for and development of low-frequency audible signal used in fire alarms, CO alarms, and fire or CO alarm systems. Developed by the Fire, Life Safety, Security, and Emergency Communication Section, document addresses why low-frequency signal is needed, difference between low-frequency signal and standard audible fire alarm signal, and when and where low frequency signal is required. NEMA welcomes USTR announcement on ITA expansion.

July 29, 2015

NEMA welcomed announcement by U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman that agreement had been reached among leading countries to expand scope of World Trade Organization’s Information Technology Agreement. According to announcement, product list including MRI and CT units as well as other specific products of interest to NEMA manufacturers has been provisionally agreed by participating governments. Under ITA, willing WTO member countries agree to eliminate their own tariffs on list of products. Read More

This application guide was created to bring attention to National Electrical Code® and Underwriters Laboratories guidelines regarding new labeling requirements. Eight State DOT Projects win America's Transportation Awards.

Co-sponsored by AASHTO, AAA, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, America's Transportation Awards annually recognize best of America's transportation projects in 4 regional competitions. Department of Transportation projects in New Mexico and Montana won in the "Best Use of Innovation" category, while projects in Texas, Colorado, and Utah won in "Under Budget" category. FAA proposes $55,000 civil penalty against MayaAir.

FAA proposes $55,000 civil penalty against MayaAir, LLC of Telluride, CO, for allegedly conducting commercial operations with an unauthorized aircraft. FAA alleges that between July 28 and August 3, 2014, MayaAir flew a Beechjet 400A on 5 flights when its operating specifications did not authorize use of that aircraft for commercial operations. FAA alleges that paying passengers were aboard each of the flights, which took place in Colorado, Ohio, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Read More

BIO World Congress sets new record for partnering meetings.

The 2015 BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology recently concluded at the Montreal Convention Center. With more than 50 exhibitors, this year’s Conference drew around 1,200 industry leaders from 725 companies, 50 countries, and 37 states, as well as the District of Columbia. U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman announced countries agreed to expand scope of World Trade Organization's Information Technology Agreement (WTO ITA). In said announcement, products of interest to NEMA manufacturers were provisionally agreed upon by participating governments. NEMA President and CEO Kevin J. Cosgriff applauded Ambassador Froman, Deputy U.S. Trade Representative and U.S. Ambassador to WTO Michael Punke, and U.S. negotiators for "steadfast advocacy and their success." Read More

FAA proposes civil penalty against Avion Research Inc.

FAA proposes $420,000 civil penalty against Avion Research Inc. of Cupertino, CA, for allegedly producing and advertising articles that weren’t authorized for installation on certificated aircraft. FAA alleges that Avion manufactured 63 glare shields that did not comply with federal aviation regulations for producing replacement or modification articles for FAA type-certificated aircraft. FAA further alleges Avion knew shields were reasonably likely to be installed on type-certificated aircraft. Read More

FAA proposes a $173,100 civil penalty against Eaton Corporation Aerospace Operations of Irvine, CA, for allegedly violating drug and alcohol testing regulations. FAA alleges that Eaton, which operates aircraft repair stations, failed to include 6 employees who performed safety-sensitive work in random drug and alcohol testing pools. FAA also alleges Eaton failed to conduct pre-employment drug tests before transferring 2 employees into safety-sensitive positions. Read More
