Zylight Hosts Free Lighting Presentations at NAB 2014

LOS ANGELES – Zylight, a leading manufacturer of innovative LED lighting solutions, will host three free presentations that detail the use of LED lighting for a variety of production applications at the 2014 NAB Show (Booth C5346). All presentations are at 1 p.m. at the Zylight booth and will feature insights from industry professionals who use Zylight products on location or in the studio.

"We're looking forward to another successful series of speakers this year," said Joe Arnao, president of Zylight. "NAB is a great place to share information and introduce potential new customers to the benefits of Zylight's LED lighting instruments. I can't think of a better way to illustrate the performance and versatility of our products than to invite some of our customers to share their stories."

On Monday, April 7, Thaddeus Setla of San Francisco-based Setla Film Productions will discuss his use of Zylight's F8 LED Fresnels for location shoots. A trained paramedic, Setla began his video production career producing short training videos. Now he travels the world visiting healthcare providers to share stories and procedures in an effort to improve patient care through Code STEMI, an online documentary series. He's been using his F8s in the field since October.

"The whole goal is to have compact, dependable equipment," Setla said. "The output of the light is invaluable. It handles better than anything else I've ever had."

A panel discussion will explore the benefits of migrating from traditional studio lighting to LED technology on Tuesday, April 8, featuring Andrew Boucher, Jeff Hamel and David De Barros. Hamel is an accomplished lighting designer and lighting director who has worked on national television commercials and projects for major broadcast and television networks. Recently, he supervised the design and installation of LED lighting systems at several northeast production facilities. For more than a decade, Boucher has been a production manager at High Output, a production services firm based outside of Boston with additional offices in Charleston, S.C., Providence, R.I., Portland, Maine, and Newport, Conn.

De Barros has served as technical manager of Euro Light System in Sannois, France, since 2009, and is responsible for design, production and installation of broadcast studio lighting systems. The company has delivered nearly 80 full LED studios for customers in France and around the world, and he will explain how their customers are benefitting from Zylight LED lighting instruments.

On Wednesday, April 9, veteran shooter, editor and product designer Mike Sutton will talk about LED lighting and high-speed shooting. Sutton, who also serves as senior account manager at Rule Boston Camera, recently reported on his blog at www.wideopencamera.com that he used the F8 on location for a Range Rover commercial shoot. He noted the F8 did not flicker when set at 100 percent output at more than 5,500 frames per second. "This is important as most lights will kill your high-speed shot with rolling bars and bands of light or high pulse flickering," he added.
