ZRC Worldwide announced today that its ZRC 221 cold galvanizing compound has been tested and approved as a Qualified "Organic Zinc Rich Primer" by CALTRANS. Typical uses for organic zinc primers are repair of galvanized steel, minor touch-up on inorganic zinc-coated steel, application to threads on galvanized pipes, coating inside of bolt holes and other cut edges of coated-steel products. It is one of only two products on list approved for applications where the repair work will be visible.
ZRC 221 is a technological zinc coating breakthrough that retains the proven corrosion protection properties of the company's flagship ZRC Cold Galvanizing Compound while offering a lower, more environmentally friendly volatile solvent (VOC) level of only 221 gm/L. Key features of ZRC 221 are 92% ultra pure zinc in the dried film and weight of over 26 pounds per gallon.
"We developed 221 specifically for VOC-restricted areas and environmentally sensitive LEED building projects, as well as for manufacturers seeking reduced solvent emissions", according to Matthew Steele, ZRC Worldwide President and CEO. "It took years of research and testing to develop a single component zinc product like ZRC 221 that offers the excellent corrosion protection that has become our trademark. ZRC 221 joins ZRC ZERO VOC, a water-based galvanizing compound on our Green product list.
