Zebra Technologies' New 802.11g WLAN Option for Mobile Printers Delivers Faster Throughput and Advanced Security

Zebra Meets the Needs of Early Adopters Upgrading to Faster Wireless Networks

VERNON HILLS, Ill., June 21 / Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:ZBRA), a global leader in on-demand printing solutions for business improvement, offers an advanced 802.11g wireless LAN (WLAN) option for Zebra's QL Plus series now and later this summer for its RW series mobile printers. Zebra's new 802.11g Radio is intended for use on faster, data-intensive networks that require the highest levels of security via built-in 802.11i and Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) to keep data safe.

"Many of today's leading mobile applications including point of sale credit card processing and receipt printing, price markdowns and ticket printing depend on fast and secure data transfer," explained Bob Danahy, Zebra's director of global mobile and wireless technology. "This advanced radio option is an example of how portable printers from Zebra are helping to meet the wireless printing needs of large retailers, manufacturers and healthcare organizations."

New 802.11g networks outpace existing 802.11b networks with up to five times the speed, and offer solid signal range support for more users simultaneously. 802.11g networks are backwards compatible with 802.11b devices, but offer maximum wireless performance when all devices on the network support the protocol. The Zebra 802.11g Radio -- offered on Zebra's QL Plus series now, and RW series mobile printers later this summer -- enables Zebra mobile printers to support the speed and security companies invested in when selecting 802.11g standards for their networks.

The Zebra 802.11g Radio supports 802.11i, VPN and WPA/WPA2-Enterprise standards to ensure maximum data security. WPA2-Enterprise encrypts data with IEEE's Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and verifies the identity of network users using Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP). Such enterprise-level security support enables the Zebra 802.11g Radio to support a variety of usage scenarios and many of today's leading mobile applications, including hospitality, point of sale, retail price markdowns, warehouse labeling and more.
