Yin He Electronics Selects Freescale Silicon Tuner for Digital Television Set-Top Box Design

QINGDAO, China - July 6, 2007 - Jiangsu Yin He Electronics, one of China's leading digital television set-top box manufacturers, has selected Freescale's MC44S803 silicon tuner for a digital television set-top box model.

Digital set-top boxes are being widely deployed throughout China as the nation migrates from analog to digital television technology. Silicon tuners are key to the design of new set-top box devices capable of addressing digital television requirements. Freescale's high-performance, low-voltage tuner technologies offer small footprints and are proving to be popular with many design and manufacturing companies.

Yin He Electronics is a top innovator in the design and manufacture of digital television set-top box devices. The company is a leader in the development of products that comply with the DVB standard, including digital satellite television receivers and set-top boxes. The company's products have obtained many certifications in China and are sold widely in Europe, Australia, North America, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The company has established strategic alliances with top companies in China and around the world, as well as with several higher education and research institutes.

"The digital television boom in China has established an industry chain which has raised the bar higher for product development," said Mr. Gu Hongchun, associate general manager of Yin He Electronics. "Demand is high today for minimal integration, low power consumption, stability and shorter design and production cycles. These requirements create the need for new application technologies such as silicon tuners. Yin He Electronics selected Freescale's MC44S803 silicon tuner because of its high performance, low power consumption and ready-to-manufacture design, which shortens time to market. We look forward to more cooperation with Freescale on advanced technologies."

"Digital set-top box devices are becoming increasingly popular in China, and Freescale is working actively with leading OEMs such as Yin He Electronics to provide world-class digital television set-top RF front-end tuner solutions that help speed and simplify design and manufacturing," said Y.K. Ho, Freescale's director of marketing and business operations, Network and Computing Systems Group, Asia Pacific region. "The MC44S803 delivers the perfect balance of high performance, low power and simplified design to meet Yin He's advanced requirements for next-generation digital television set-top boxes. We are pleased to collaborate with industry leaders like Yin He in technology development and marketing to drive the industry to new heights."

About the MC44S803 silicon tuner
Freescale's MC44S803 single-chip silicon tuner, which is based on CMOS technology, is suitable for applications such as analog and digital televisions, set-top box devices and wireless base station applications. Representing Freescale's third generation of silicon tuners, the MC44S803 is engineered to provide higher performance with low power consumption and system costs.

The MC44S803 device turns 48 MHz to 861 MHz RF signals and converts them to an IF signal of 30 MHz to 60 MHz. The device is an ideal solution for digital television set-top applications, as it eliminates the need for discrete tracking filters and manually aligned coils, thereby reducing system cost and complexity while improving performance and reliability. In addition, the MC44S803 tuner is designed to meet Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) requirements for 64- and 256-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), as well as the NorDig Unified 1.0.1 specifications for coded orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (COFDM) for DVB-T.
