Xiotech Adds Solid State Disk Drives for Most Demanding Data Storage Applications

Addition of SSD Gives Organizations Four Tiers of Storage Performance on Magnitude 3D 3000 Systems

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., July 13 // -- Xiotech® Corporation today announced support for Fibre Channel-attached solid state disk (SSD) drives in its Magnitude 3D® 3000 virtual storage systems. Organizations can now leverage the distinct benefits of a solid state disk, such as extremely high performance and real-memory technology, without purchasing an additional high- performance storage system.

Xiotech now offers four tiers of storage that can be managed by the Magnitude 3D 3000 system at ascending levels of performance -- Serial ATA (SATA), economy Fibre Channel drives, enterprise Fibre Channel drives, and now SSD.

Solid state disks can accelerate the transfer of data for I/O-intensive applications such as database systems, enabling those applications to run faster, without resorting to costly additional servers, storage systems, associated licenses and management overhead. As a result, organizations deploying solid state disks can realize immediate and significant productivity gains.

A single Magnitude 3D 3000 system can be configured with between 6 GB and 1.2 TB of Fibre Channel-attached SSD storage. Customers can add solid state disk drives to their existing Magnitude 3D 3000 systems, enabling them to manage multiple storage tiers within one system and with one set of management tools. As with other storage tiers, customers may create, copy or swap virtual disks at the SSD tier level as well. The unique virtual disk prioritization feature of the Magnitude 3D 3000 complements the solid state disk by preserving application access priorities across multiple storage tiers.

"Xiotech gives you simple management plus the highest possible performance -- you don't have to choose one or the other," said Mike Stolz, vice president of Marketing at Xiotech. "The innovative virtual storage cluster design and support of virtual disk prioritization ensure that a high-performance tier of storage can be deployed along with enterprise Fibre Channel, economy Fibre Channel and SATA storage in one storage system while preserving the high- performance characteristics of solid state disk for the most critical data."

The solid state disk drives will become available this quarter.
