Xilinx Demonstrates All Programmable OTN Solutions at WDM & Next Generation Optical Networking Conference 2012

Xilinx OTN IP portfolio enables Telecom/Network OEMs to innovate and differentiate products while reducing time-to-market and Total Cost of Ownership

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) will feature the advantages of its All Programmable technologies for carrier-class optical networking at the WDM and Next Generation Optical Networking Conference 2012 in Monaco. Demonstrations of Xilinx's 28nm Virtex®-7 HT FPGAs with 28 Gbps transceivers for next-generation (CFP2) optical modules, programmable solutions for 100G Optical Transport Networks (OTN) and 10G to 28G high-speed serial applications will be highlighted.

What: WDM and Next Generation Optical Networking Conference 2012

Where: Grimaldi Forum, Monaco

Exhibition Hall, Stand 14

When: June 18 - 21, 2012

Xilinx transceiver experts and business executives will be on hand to discuss strategic opportunities and demonstrate 100G OTN connectivity solutions running on industry-leading 28nm Virtex-7 FPGAs, including the demonstrations of the Virtex-7 H580T FPGA, the world's first 3D heterogeneous all programmable FPGA with high-speed 28 Gbps transceivers. Additionally, Forward Error Correction (FEC) for optical infrastructure applications will be discussed.

"Xilinx's All Programmable technologies and devices deliver the performance, energy efficiency, scalability and future-proof security that today's carriers need to meet increasing customer demands," said Gilles Garcia, director of the Xilinx Wired Communications Group. "With our portfolio of advanced FPGAs offering ultra-high logic-density, extensive IP solutions for optical wired networking applications, comprehensive development tools and technical support, we can deliver ideal solutions that enable CapEx and OpEx reductions for service providers."

Booth Demonstrations

Committed to providing wired-optimized platforms that satisfy low to high volume programs, Xilinx All Programmable solutions are easily adaptable to the rapidly changing market standards in the communications marketplace. Xilinx demonstrations focusing on platforms that accelerate development of key OTN functional elements include:

100G Transponder/Muxponder Platform Demonstration

- Features superior jitter performance with OTN-compliant hardware
interfaces. On the same platform, the Virtex-7 HT FPGA 10 x 10G
Muxponder showcases a highly integrated solution optimized for lowest
cost and power, featuring high-quality transceivers. The Muxponder
demonstration interoperates with industry-leading test equipment
delivering full visibility of 10G clients, a best in breed FPGA platform
for OTN solutions.

28nm Leadership Technology Demonstration

- Underlines the advantages of Xilinx's leading-edge 28nm device
technology showing a 100G CFP2 optical module communicating directly
with a Virtex-7 HT 580T FPGA over a 28 Gbps connection. The eight 28
Gbps transceivers and large logic capacity of this device enable
designers to implement a dual 100G OTN transponder on a single chip,
whereas alternative ASSP-based solutions comprise five ICs, consume 40
percent more power, cost 50 percent more and are not available for over
a year.

Virtex-7 HT devices use Xilinx's stacked silicon interconnect (SSI) technology to deliver the industry's highest bandwidth FPGAs, featuring up to sixteen 28 Gbps and seventy-two 13.1 Gbps transceivers, making them the only single-chip solutions for addressing key 200G and 400G OTN applications. The heterogeneous implementation of Virtex-7 HT devices enables Xilinx to make independent technology choices for the core FPGA and 28 Gbps transceiver die. This approach allows customers to achieve lower system power consumption, superior noise isolation for best overall signal integrity and system margin, with improved productivity for design closure leading to faster time to market.
