Bookham(TM) Extends Temperature Capabilities of XFP Transceivers



San Jose, CA - March 6, 2006 - Bookham, Inc. (NASDAQ: BKHM), a leading provider of optical components, modules and subsystems, is now offering a transceiver designed to enable an increase of networking equipment port density while avoiding the resulting thermal challenges.

The IGF-42312 is the first of a new line of extended temperature XFP modules capable of high performance operation between -10°C and +85°C, a twenty degree wider temperature range than that of standard devices. The IGF-42312 is a multi-protocol 10km reach transceiver that supports SONET/SDH SR-1/I-64.1, 10G Ethernet and 10G Fibre Channel applications, including FEC rates.

The IGF-42312 has surpassed a 1000-hour interim phase of the rigorous Telcordia Generic Reliability Assurance Requirements for Optoelectronic Devices used in Telecommunications - GR-468-CORE - qualification testing, with products now shipping under controlled availability.

Bookham also announced today the completion of Telcordia GR-468-CORE qualification testing for two of its 40km XFP transceiver products, designed for metro carrier, enterprise and storage networking applications. The IGF-32511 is a multi-protocol 1550nm transceiver that supports SONET/SDH IR-2/S-64.2b, 10G Ethernet and 10G Fibre Channel applications. The IGF-17511 is a 1550nm transceiver, used exclusively for 10G Ethernet applications, which meets the 10GBASE-ER/EW specification. Both hot-pluggable XFP MSA transceivers are currently shipping in volume.

"Adding these transceivers to our growing list of qualified XFP products, which includes our 10km Gigabit Ethernet and SONET/SDH transceivers, reflects the level of quality and reliability that our customers have come to expect from Bookham," Park added.

These products, along with other XFP and SFP transceivers will be on display at the Bookham stand (no. 3013) at next week's OFC/NFOEC (7-9 March, Anaheim Convention Center, California).
