New HDPE Resin in Plastic Fuel Tank Exhibiting Resistance to Bio-Diesel Fuels
November 08, 2007 -- Basell has developed new patented Lupolen high density polyethylene (HDPE) resins for use in automotive plastic fuel tanks with enhanced resistance to bio-diesels.
"We are responding to the automotive industry's demands for resins that can address their alternative fuel technology needs," said Thomas Lindner, Customer Program Manager of Basell's plastic fuel tanks program. "Lupolen HDPE test data using blow moulded and injection moulded specimens has shown a dramatic increase in chemical resistance to bio-diesel fuels compared to current HDPE grades on the market."
Commercialisation of these grades is expected in Europe in early 2008.
Added Lindner: "We anticipate that these new grades can also offer customers good processability and an excellent balance of properties, as our industry benchmark Lupolen 4261A has done for years."
