Nemetschek Vectorworks to Introduce Pedestrian Simulation Software at the AIA 2012 National Convention and Design Expo

SimTread just one of several products to be demonstrated at booth #2009

COLUMBIA, Md. - Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc. will introduce SimTread, a pedestrian simulation software tool, at the AIA 2012 National Convention and Design Expo this week. The SimTread tool is used with Vectorworks software to simulate crowd movement and analyze pedestrian flow. It was developed by A&A Co. Ltd., the Vectorworks distributor in Japan, in partnership with Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan, and Takenaka Corporation. In addition to simulating and verifying crowd movement with just a few simple operations, SimTread can also serve as evacuation simulation software for both general and complex building and municipal designs.

"One of the key benefits of SimTread is that users need not be professional designers, or even experts at using design software," said Rubina Siddiqui, Assoc. AIA, architectural industry specialist at Nemetschek Vectorworks. "Of course, SimTread was created for use with Vectorworks, but other building stakeholders can create simulations using a variety of imported file types such as PDFs, image files and DWGs."

SimTread benefits:

o Simulates crowd evacuation from schools, theaters, stadiums, event venues, exhibit halls, transit stations, or other locations where large numbers of people gather, to aid in evacuation planning processes.

o Generates data needed to analyze how people move through a design and to verify a design's occupant circulation.

o At train, bus, or other transportation terminals, helps prevent congestion caused by commuters.

o For municipal planning, simulates pedestrian movement along sidewalks and assists with the determination of traffic signal placement.

SimTread demonstrations will take place at the Nemetschek Vectorworks booth, #2009, at The AIA 2012 National Convention and Design Exposition, May 17-19 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

Other booth presentations include demonstrations of CadFaster|Collaborate(TM), a cloud-based BIM collaboration tool; AR-works, an augmented reality solution; and Vectorworks Cloud Services. Guest presentations include case studies by architects from François Lévy Architect, Division1 Architects and The M Group. A complete schedule of events can be found on the Nemetschek Vectorworks Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/vectorworks.

In addition, Jeffrey Ouellette, Assoc. AIA, BIM specialist at Nemetschek Vectorworks, will participate in the educational session "Digital Connections: Better Designs, Better Buildings and Better Practices with Better BIM Interoperability" with Dana K. Smith, FAIA, executive director of the buildingSMART alliance, on Thursday, May 17 at 4:00 p.m. at the Washington Convention Center, Room 202B.
