ArvinMeritor Introduces LogixDrive(TM) Intelligent Axle System

Benefits Include Improved Vehicle Fuel Economy and Reduced Greenhouse Gas Emissions

HANNOVER, Germany, -- ArvinMeritor, Inc. (NYSE: ARM) today introduced its new Meritor® LogixDrive(TM) ultra-high efficiency axle system at the 63rd IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hannover. The introduction of LogixDrive follows the successful launch of the company's high efficiency 17X carrier technology in 2008.

Engineered to actively monitor vehicle operating conditions, Meritor's LogixDrive system is the industry's first intelligent axle system. Enabled by electronic controls, the drive unit constantly senses temperature, speed, braking and torque conditions to apply the optimized amount of lubrification to the axle. The LogixDrive system addresses the two main areas of power loss in axles: gear and bearing friction and oil churning due to gear rotation.

"The LogixDrive system is another example of our company's unparalleled focus on improving vehicle fuel efficiency to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and optimize vehicle operating costs," said Carsten Reinhardt, chief operating officer for ArvinMeritor.

"ArvinMeritor engineers are changing the paradigm of typical non-active axle systems by employing advanced controls leading to intelligent axles with tangible customer benefits," added Joe Elbehairy, vice president, Engineering, ArvinMeritor. "The LogixDrive system will provide fuel savings of approximately one percent without the need for driver interface, as well as parasitic energy loss reductions of more than 30 percent compared to prior axle generations."

The LogixDrive system will be available as an option on the Meritor 17X and other drive axle systems beginning in 2012.
