Ferraz Shawmut Introduces Two New Surge-Trap® SPD Products
Ferraz Shawmut is pleased to introduce two new overvoltage protection products:
o Surge-Trap Pluggable SPD
o Surge-Trap Type 1 SPD
Both products meet the requirements for the UL 1449 Third Edition and IEC 61643-1 standards. They feature TPMOV® technology inside and are "no-fuse" surge suppressors that do not require the use of additional overcurrent protection, thus offering additional cost savings.
About the Surge-Trap Pluggable SPD
Like its modular predecessor, the Surge-Trap Pluggable SPD offers fail-safe protection and mounts easily on a DIN-rail to safeguard critical electrical system components from the harmful effects of transient overvoltages. Its IP-20 grade "finger-safe" design makes it easy to replace upon failure without touching the base or the hassle of rewiring. Plugs are available in various voltage configurations, with photovoltaic configurations also available.
With features for both visual status and remote signaling indication, the Surge-Trap Pluggable SPD suits system voltages from 120V to 600V and MCOV rated 180V to 550V. It has a 200kA short circuit current rating (SCCR) and 20kA 8/20µs surge capacity (In) rating per mode. Agency approvals include UL 1449, 3rd Edition, ANSI/IEEE C62.41 and IEC 61643-1 Type 2. Multiple configurations are available, with DIN-rail or direct panel mounting.
About the Surge-Trap Type 1 SPD
The Surge-Trap Type is ideal for indoor applications and is an economical replacement for the former Surge Arrestor category. It features TPMOV technology inside and is a "no-fuse" SPD that doesn't require the use of fuses or additional overcurrent protection. It can be installed upstream or downstream of the main disconnect.
The Surge-Trap Type 1 SPD product line offers a wide range of voltage configurations, including single phase, split phase, three phase delta, and three phase wye, to meet all needs for indoor NEMA Type 2 applications. It also satisfies National Electric Code (NEC) 2008 SPD requirements. The SPD's features include a fail-safe design, an IP20 enclosure, easy installation, and mechanical.
Surge-Trap Type 1 SPD is UL 1449 3rd Edition Approved for Type 1 and 2 applications, including service entrances, feeders and branch circuits. With features for both visual indicators, the Surge-Trap Type 1 SPD suits system voltages from 120V to 600V and MCOV rated 180V to 550V. It has a 200kA short circuit current rating (SCCR) and 40kA 8/20µs surge capacity rating per mode. Agency approvals include ANSI UL 1449 3rd Edition, and meets 2008 NEC Article 280 and 285, UL 96A, NFPA 780 and NEMA LS-1 guidelines. Surge-Trap Type 1 SPD offers 2 year product warranty.
