Plasti-Fab Recycles And Reuses Fiberglass In Composites Manufacturing

Plasti-Fab, world wide manufacturer of fiberglass composite solutions, has begun large-scale integration of their recycled FRP, reducing negative emissions, the use of non-sustainable materials, and raising industry standards for greener production.

For the last 40 years, Plasti-Fab has become a major player in Fiberglass production, mostly due to their visionary utilization of Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) composites. In the most recent of those 40 years, when most manufacturers are looking to cut costs, Plasti-Fab has become serious about their new Managed Emission Process, or MEP (http://www.plasti-fab.com/managed-emission-process), encompassing the company's overall Green approach towards their daily manufacturing processes. Specifically - and most impressively when looking at current industry recycling manufacturing habits - Plasti-Fab's recent acquisition of custom-made equipment for large scale recycling raises the standard for reducing environmental impact in fiberglass-based production.

The new grinder machine allows Plasti-Fab to collect various waste, trim, and overspray materials which can then create a compound reused in several closed mold manufacturing processes. The more efficient production not only cleans up the production process, but also results in a recycled material that can replace previously used non-biodegradable foam core. Currently, Plasti-Fab can recycle over 1000 pounds of FRP a month, replacing the equivalent of 1280 square feet of the non-biodegradable foam materials. In addition to being a greener solution,, the new recycled compound is a much stronger substitute, completing the prosperous relationship between manufacturer, customer, and environment.

Plasti-Fab has already been integrating other environmentally conscious efforts under their MEP umbrella, including the recent elimination of Acetone as a solvent, rapid transition from an open mold to a closed mold, and closed system delivery of resins. According to VP of Operations, Larry Richardson, all this combined has established Plasti-Fab's commitment to sustainable processes for the environment, "Plasti-Fab cares and is demonstrating that by providing a greener more sustainable environment and delivering greener products to its customers."

Because of these efforts, Plasti-Fab will go from a Small Quantity Generator (SQG) of hazardous waste - nearly 17,000 pounds annually, to a Conditionally Exempt Generator (CEG) - less than 2640 lbs annually and are subsequently eligible for a reduced air permit. About Plasti-Fab
Plasti-Fab is a world class composite products manufacturer focused on flexible manufacturing that solves customer's needs. For over 40 years they have produced engineered products designed to meet specific application requirements. Plasti-Fab serves the global marketplace from their facilities in Tualatin, Oregon and Lakeland, Florida, as a service-oriented organization with the experience necessary to recommend workable equipment and installation modifications when required. In 2010, we officially began recycling and reusing fiberglass waste in the form of a recycled FRP compound. This compound is not only greener, but also much stronger and will replace several poly foam materials currently being used in various projects.
