DALSA Announces New XR-4 Camera for Medical and Scientific X-Ray Applications

CHICAGO - RSNA 2006 - November 27, 2006 - DALSA Corporation (TSX: DSA) today announced its latest life sciences imaging solution, the XR-4 scientific and medical X-Ray camera intended for use in the biomedical, specimen, mammography and computed tomography (CT scanning) fields. The XR-4 delivers superior image quality, offers a larger field of view, and high frame rates for CT applications. Automatic exposure control in the XR-4 minimizes patient dosage, and delivers increased resolution and sensitivity.

In applications such as mammography, digital radiography is a vital tool in early cancer cell detection. Digital radiographic techniques go beyond just detecting cancer cells. If a biopsy becomes necessary, digital radiography can help doctors to position biopsy needles properly through a process called stereotactic imaging. The camera can assist with specimen radiography to test tissue specimens.

DALSA Life Sciences imaging technology is incorporated into medical imaging equipment for clinical use and significantly increases the speed and accuracy of stereotactic biopsy needle positioning, spot imaging, CT, and specimen radiography. This in turn decreases patient risk, procedure accuracy, significantly reduces patient discomfort, and speeds the process.

The XR-4 digital X-Ray camera is an innovative 16 mega pixel CCD camera for high resolution radiography applications. The camera has a very large field of view (150 x 150 mm) and can operate at 10 frames per second (4 x 4 binning mode) using proprietary DALSA technology.

The XR-4's high spatial resolution, low noise and high sensitivity provide better images than competing technologies. XR-4 is a reliable camera with consistent performance over time; its robustness and durability maximizes return on investment. With its standard Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) output interface and no requirement for a frame grabber, the XR-4 is easily integrated into radiography systems. The XR-4 comes in three different models; a 7.5 x 7.5 cm, 7.5 x 15 cm and a 15 x 15 cm field of view. The camera can also be customized to meet specific customer requirements, with minimum investment.
