Wyse Technology Ships Microsoft's New Windows Embedded CE 6.0

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 18 -- Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced that it is shipping thin clients based on Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0. As one of the first vendors to ship thin clients based on Microsoft Windows CE 6.0, users can easily take advantage of new optimized security and IT administration features while utilizing enhanced add-on and peripheral support.

Windows Embedded CE 6.0 enables Wyse thin computers to support the latest Windows Embedded CE-based applications while making it easier to integrate and manage peripherals such as wireless adapters, smart card readers and security solutions. Microsoft Windows Embedded CE is ideal for IT departments and organizations that require Citrix ICA, Microsoft RDP as well as a local browser and terminal emulation support. The end result is thin client users get a "PC-like experience" on a desktop running most legacy applications.

Wyse is now shipping Windows Embedded CE 6.0-based thin clients on its S-class family of thin clients in a limited release, with full volume expected this summer. Wyse will also extend support for Windows Embedded CE across its entire product line within several months.

"Microsoft has redesigned the kernel of its operating system to add greater functionality, security and simplicity for thin computing environments," said Jeff McNaught, Chief Marketing Officer of Wyse Technology. "These new features will make Windows Embedded CE 6.0 a more dominant operating system in our market by providing users with greater flexibility when it comes to application virtualization and delivery. As the leading thin client vendor we expect an enthusiastic customer response."

By combining Microsoft's small and fast operating system with Wyse's firmware, users get a quicker boot time and increased protection against viruses and malware. The result is a simple but more secure solution that provides the flexibility to add standard peripherals, from printers to scanners to USB thumb drives, which can only be connected under access controlled by the IT administrator.

"Windows Embedded CE 6.0 features a redesigned kernel with expanded capacity for up to 32,000 simultaneous processes while also retaining and expanding on the innovative features and functionality of previous Windows Embedded CE generations," said Ilya Bukshteyn, Director of Windows Embedded Marketing at Microsoft Corp. "The combination of the Windows Embedded CE 6.0 and Wyse's market leading thin client devices will definitely enhance the user experience and boost functionality while still maintaining a similar system footprint."

This summer, Wyse thin clients will take full advantage of the Windows Embedded CE 6.0 operating system and features including:

New kernel with improved memory usage enabling users to run a larger number of applications simultaneously

Performance-enhanced Citrix Presentation Server ICA 10.0 client for application virtualization and delivery

Latest Ericom Terminal Emulation support for over 35 different types including multiple language and administrative lockdown of any feature to prevent misuse

Smart Card PC/SC support that allows customers to quickly access applications while maintaining a high level of security

Wyse Internal and external USB wireless 802.11b/g support.
