Wyse Technology Enhances Multimedia Capabilities on Thin Clients for Citrix Application Virtualization Environments

New Capabilities Deliver 'PC-Like Experience' on Wyse Thin Clients over Citrix Application Delivery Infrastructure

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 10 /- Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced software that delivers multimedia capabilities across Citrix's Application Delivery Infrastructure products, including Presentation Server(TM) and Desktop Server(TM), for Wyse thin clients.

Called Wyse TCX Multimedia, this software, enables select new and existing thin clients to display rich multimedia, utilizing the strengths of the Citrix platform. TCX Multimedia works with the Citrix server to intelligently harness the thin client's processing power so server performance is maximized. By providing users with high-quality multimedia, which isn't available from any other thin-client vendor, Wyse is opening up new market opportunities in education and training, financial services, medical care and research industries.

"We've been partnering with Wyse for 12 years now," said Scott Herren, Group Vice President and General Manager, Virtualization Systems Group, Citrix. "This announcement really showcases the versatility of thin clients when properly integrated with our application delivery platform. These new multimedia capabilities will bring users around to thinking about virtualized desktops as a no-compromise approach to desktop computing."

"Our partnership with Citrix continues to extend and enhance the capabilities of our thin computing devices," said Tarkan Maner, President and CEO for Wyse Technology. "We now have thin clients that are optimized to run in any application delivery environment that can offer sophisticated multimedia display capabilities. By adding these new capabilities the experience gap between a thin client and PC is dramatically reduced. When factoring in the added benefits of Citrix's platform, users get an unbeatable value proposition for going thin."

Wyse TCX Multimedia is available now and is priced under $25 per-client.

This announcement further supports Wyse's EarthSmart Computing(TM) initiative, which outlines how organizations can reduce power consumption by up to 90 percent while helping achieve their "green" computing objectives. The move towards an application delivery environment when coupled with thin clients, rather then PCs, is much more environmentally friendly because users consume less power resulting in lower CO2 emissions. The outcome is lower IT operating costs and a smaller environmental footprint.
