Wyse Technology Advances Its Enterprise Desktop Virtualization Offering on Thin Clients with Extensions for VMware Infrastructure

New Wyse Software Now Integrates with VMware Infrastructure to Enable Display of Rich Multimedia Content on Thin Client Desktops from Wyse

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 10 /-- Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced that it has become the first vendor to ship multimedia enabling extensions that now support VMware Infrastructure. This collaboration has resulted in Wyse integrating software extensions into VMware's flagship virtualization product, which now allows thin clients to display rich multimedia content in a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment.

This integration enables VMware Infrastructure to extend desktop virtualization capabilities to Wyse thin clients with the robust features and applications experienced on a PC. Through the VMware Community Source program, these new software extensions enable Wyse thin clients to display rich video, making them an ideal solution for working in a VDI environment.

The multimedia extensions are now available for VMware Infrastructure. Moving forward, Wyse will continue to contribute to the VMware Community Source program to integrate other robust features and capabilities of VMware Infrastructure for Wyse thin clients.

"The Wyse thin client integration with VMware Infrastructure is a unique solution that takes advantage of the robust VMware platform to create rich multimedia content," said Brian Byun, Vice President of Global Partners and Solutions at VMware. "We are excited to see Wyse take advantage of the resources and collaborative environment of the VMware Community Source program as it continues to grow, and we look forward to continuing to work together on cutting-edge IT solutions."

"This announcement is a significant milestone in the ongoing evolution of thin computing," said Tarkan Maner, President and CEO for Wyse Technology. "Wyse TCX Multimedia provides a new level of rich multimedia capabilities on thin clients, in a VDI environment. Thin computing is already a greener solution, and by closing the gap between the thin client and PC experience more people will see the benefits of going thin."

Wyse's EarthSmart Computing(TM) initiative, which outlines how organizations can reduce power consumption by up to 90 percent while helping achieve their "green" computing objectives is further supported by this announcement. The move towards a virtualized desktop environment when coupled with thin clients is much more environmentally friendly because users consume less power resulting in lower CO2 emissions. The outcome is lower IT operating costs and a smaller environmental footprint.
