Worm Wheel Reduction Gearboxes have low-backlash design.

Press Release Summary:

Able to be designed to customer specifications, low-backlash (under 8 arc/min) worm wheel reduction gearboxes feature all-bearing design and precision cut gearing. Ratios from 5:1-120:1 are available as standard, with special ratios available on request. Other versions include those with 24 Vdc motor and NEMA 23 flange. Output shafts in 303 stainless steel are available, separately, in single- or double-sided versions as standard and have steel keys and circlips.

Worm Wheel Reduction Gearboxes

A range of in-house UK produced worm wheel reduction gearboxes are within the most popular products of the mechanical drive components specialist, Ondrives Ltd of Chesterfield.

These gearboxes are synonymous with the name Ondrives Ltd and have been produced by the company for over 30 years on site in Chesterfield. They feature an all bearing design and available in ratios from 5:1 to 120:1 as standard with special ratios available on request. More recently, other versions have been added to the range with a 24V DC motor and a NEMA 23 flange added to the standard boxes. They are low backlash as standard at less than 8 arc/min and Ondrives state they use high precision cut gearing to close down the gap between the meshing teeth, thereby reducing backlash. Using eccentrics, Ondrives manufacture a unit that features low resistance compared to spring loaded designs, and in addition, the torque figures for the specially designed bespoke units that customers request, are the same as standard ones. With spring loaded designs, torque is limited by the strength of the spring. Additionally, the use of springs increases frictional resistance and increases wear which the Ondrives method overcomes.

Gearbox output shafts in 303 stainless steel are also available to purchase separately in either single or double sided versions as standard and all have steel keys and circlips included. Specials can easily be accommodated and stainless keys and circlips are available for a small extra cost.

A big growth area for Ondrives recently has been the increase in demand for specially designed units to customer's specifications. This has largely been made possible by Ondrives continuing investment in state of the art CAD and 3D modelling systems as well as CNC machines, the company states.
