Speed Identity and Xsense Receive Honourable Mention in the Red Dot Design Award 2011
Stockholm- Scandinavian industrial design can hold its own against international competition, as was confirmed when the winners of the Red Dot Design Award 2011 were announced. In the category Product Design, Speed Identity received a coveted Honourable Mention for its new product, the Speed Capture G3, an integrated solution for biometric data capture. The product was designed by the Swedish design agency Xsense.
The future is here and it has already won a design award! 140 countries worldwide have already introduced "e-passports" containing biometric information stored on a computer chip. The passports in Sweden store a digital facial image and fingerprints that can be used to make a computer-aided comparison at the passport control. But the new rules require new technologies for the collection of biometric information, enrollment. In Sweden, enrollment systems from Speed Identity are found at passport offices around the country. As more people come in contact with the systems, design and ease of use will become increasingly important, something which is addressed by Speed Identity's new Speed Capture G3.

Dating back since 1955 and with previous winners such as Apple, Mercedes-Benz and Maserati, the Red Dot Design Award is considered the world's most renowned and prestigious design competition. The prize laureates distinguish themselves with good design, innovative solutions and proven quality.
"Design might not be on the top of your mind when you think about biometric data capture", says Magnus Svenningsson, CEO, Speed Identity. "But as more and more people come into contact with these systems, design becomes increasingly important. The systems should not only be convenient, secure and cost efficient for the authorities, but also user-friendly."
The Red Dot 2011 Design Awards will be presented on July 4 at a ceremony in Essen, Germany. The winning products will be displayed for a full year at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, the world's largest permanent exhibition of contemporary design.
