Avocent Announces Digital Video Interface Workstation Extender

New Emerge(TM) ECMS2000U extender makes it possible to back-rack broadcast quality servers without impact to post-production operations

HUNTSVILLE, AL September 8, 2006 - Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: AVCT), a leading provider of audio-visual connectivity and control solutions, today announced the Emerge ECMS2000U digital workstation extender, which provides hardware-based extension for digital/analog video, USB keyboard and mouse, USB media, and audio signals. The Emerge ECMS2000U extender makes it possible to back-rack broadcast quality servers without impact to post-production operations. The product consists of a computer node and user node interconnected in a point-to-point manner at Gigabit Ethernet rates using IP protocols over a single UTP cable. This digital extension product meets the demanding needs of today's digital content creation professionals - including high resolution video, rich color depth, uncompromised responsiveness, CD quality audio, and compatibility with a wide range of user interface devices - while mission critical servers are securely maintained and managed.

"We are pleased to announce the new digital workstation extender," said Mitch Friend, senior vice president and general manager of Avocent. "The adoption of digital media within the broadcast market has resulted in a need for computer back-racking. We designed the ECMS2000U digital workstation extender to help broadcast engineers deliver a high-quality desktop experience to their users."

The Avocent ECMS2000U extender removes the requirement for conditioned power in the edit suite and greatly reduces ambient noise in the creative space (Edit suite or control room). Because the product offers hardware extension, it eliminates the burden that software products place on target servers. The virtual media functionality of the product provides a cost-effective alternative for expensive USB 2.0 extension products.

Avocent connectivity and control products provide connectivity, switching, extension, monitoring, and control for serial, video, and audio data. These products allow industry professionals to deliver leading-edge connectivity and control solutions to a range of markets including retail, medical, digital signage, hospitality, AV, and broadcasting. Demonstrations of the Avocent Emerge ECMS2000U digital extender will take place in the Avocent booth (Hall 7, #730) at IBC2006, Amsterdam, NL, Sept. 8-12.
