Workholding System utilizes electro-permanent magnets.

Press Release Summary:

Available with pole sizes of 50, 75, and 100 mm, MAGNOS Magnetic workholding delivers uniform clamping force due to poles' square geometry. Additional pole extensions are available as accessories to improve workpiece location and compensate for surface irregularities. Pole extensions act as workpiece support, aiding in precise positioning of different workpieces. Use of magnets enables 5-sided machining at high holding forces without interference from contours of clamping system.

MAGNOS Magnetic Workholding

SCHUNK Inc. introduces a new line to its stationary workholding program, MAGNOS Magnetic workholding. Adding magnetic workholding to the already large offering, SCHUNK now has a complete range of workholding systems available to cover all machining operations on milling machines and machining centers

For MAGNOS, SCHUNK relies on the innovative technology of electro-permanent magnets, which require only a brief amount of electricity to activate and deactivate the magnetic field. A uniform clamping force is possible thanks to the poles' square geometry. Reliable clamping, even during rough machining, is assured due to the high holding forces of the magnets. Different pole sizes of 50, 75 and 100 mm are available, enabling the holding forces to make it suitable for individual requirements. Additional pole extensions are available as accessories to improve workpiece location and to compensate for surface irregularities.

The advantage of magnetic workholding is that efficient five-sided machining is possible at very high holding forces, without any interference from contours of the clamping system. Pole extensions that act as a workpiece support allow the user to position different workpieces rapidly and precisely thus improving the productivity of the machine.

SCHUNK magnetic workholding, combined with the UNILOCK quick-change pallet system, guarantees maximum flexibility in any manufacturing process while drastically reducing set-up times and set-up co
