Work Area Vision System (WAVS) Expands Operator Awareness

A new, machine-mounted closed-circuit vision system developed specifically for rugged applications and environments is being introduced by Caterpillar Electronics and Electrical Systems (Cat Electronics) at the International Construction & Utility Exposition (ICUEE), Sept. 27-29, in Louisville, KY.

Caterpillar's new Work Area Vision System is designed for easy installation on any machine and easy to use by operators at any level, yet has powerful capabilities and features. The versatile system can provide operators with views with up to 3 cameras using advanced switching algorithms.

"While it is not intended to be used in place of direct views, or installed mirrors, the Cat WAVS is a great asset to improve operator awareness of surroundings, work tool activity and changing conditions in the work area," declared Brian Uhlenhake, Cat Electronics Sales Development Manager. The Work Area Vision System is the first closed-circuit camera system engineered and proven reliable with the ability to withstand vibration, pressure washing and adverse environmental conditions.

In addition, the display features:
o 7" (178mm) Color TFT (Thin Film Transistor) LCD display incorporating Auto-sense illumination to adjust to changing light conditions
o Sealing: IP54 (withstands splash, but not immersion)
o Rugged display mount is user-adjustable

The display provides the operator an increased field of vision in the cab, which can improve productivity as well as augment worksite safety.

Camera features include:
o Two offerings: panoramic (115°) or narrow (78°)
o Sealing: IP69K, DIN-IEC 529 (withstands high pressure wash and immersion)
o Vertical universal mount is standard; horizontal is available
o Photochromic lens that darkens in ultraviolet light exposure
o Internal heater for removal of condensation, snow and ice
