Wonderware Releases ArchestrA Bulk Import Utility to Ease Migration of Legacy Applications

LAKE FOREST, Calif., Oct. 23, 2006 -- Wonderware, a business unit of Invensys, today announced the release of the ArchestrA Bulk Import Utility 1.0. The new utility simplifies the conversion of legacy system applications to Wonderware's Industrial Application Server, which is built on the ArchestrA software architecture and improves the productivity and maintenance of industrial information and automation systems.

The ArchestrA Bulk Import Utility is available at no charge for use with a Wonderware development license and the Industrial Application Server 2.1 Patch 01 or higher.

"The ArchestrA Bulk Import Utility eases the process of integrating information when migrating existing manufacturing systems to those that leverage ArchestrA technology," said Steve Garbrecht, marketing program manager for Wonderware's product infrastructures and platforms.

"This new utility enables customers to transform tag definition files from most existing HMIs, historians, PLCs or MES applications into an Industrial Application Server object-oriented structure. The input files can be in CSV, XML or InTouch file formats. This enables the migration and integration of existing configuration and application information, which can save our customers considerable engineering time and effort."

The ArchestrA Bulk Import Utility tool includes a tag import wizard that helps the user map the new tags to the Industrial Application Server object-oriented structure. This mapping can be performed and saved for non-Wonderware HMI applications, making it an ideal upgrade and migration tool. Also, this mapping is already pre-done for InTouch users that wish to migrate to, or add on an Industrial Application Server to their existing installation. Additional mappings can be created by system integrators and shared via the ArchestrA Community Web site at www.archestra.biz . The ArchestrA Community Web site is an online collaboration portal for ArchestrA technology.

The ArchestrA Bulk Import Utility also contains a filter mechanism to aid in the creation and organization of objects by taking the raw tags and placing them in a structure. The utility then facilitates the assignment of structured tags to existing templates in the Industrial Application Server.
