Wolfson WM8400 Audio and Power Management IC Has been Selected by MtekVision to Support Its Tiger 7 Processor

First multimedia handset design-in for new AudioPlus(TM) product
MWC, Barcelona, Spain. February 11th, 2008 - Wolfson Microelectronics plc (LSE: WLF.L) announced that Korean processor vendor MtekVision has selected Wolfson's WM8400 AudioPlus(TM) Smart Power device as part of a complete mobile handset reference design supporting its multimedia applications processor. The combination of the WM8400's high quality audio and integrated power management, coupled with MtekVision's advanced processor technology enables multimedia handset designers to achieve higher performance, longer battery life and an enhanced user experience, while helping minimize system cost, PCB space and time to market.
Both the WM8400, Hi-Fi audio codec with integrated power management and MtekVision's applications processors are highly integrated devices that can help shorten system design times and reduce the requirement for additional components without compromising performance. In the case of the WM8400, the savings can be up to 25 percent on the device bill of materials (BOM) and up to 40 percent on the board footprint.
WM8400 functions include a high-performance multimedia codec, on-chip FLL, two DC-DC converters, four LDO regulators, all inside a compact 6x6 mm BGA package. The device's switchable Class AB/D speaker driver feature enables design flexibility for more diverse form factors and delivers longer battery life during music playback and voice calls. In addition, innovative filter technology and pop click suppression help improve sound quality, supporting the signal switching, audio conversion and voice mixing requirements of full-featured mobile phones.
MtekVision's Tiger 7 multimedia processor for music and mobile TV phones is a high-performance multimedia chip that enables video playback at D1 resolution. It improves transfer speed of MP3 files and video files by providing USB2.0 and it also provides a DRM (Digital Rights Management) solution for high specification music phones.
