Belden® Now Offers a 12-Port Intelligent WLAN Switch for Added Flexibility When Using the Belden Wireless Solution

RICHMOND, IN - Belden, a world leader in the development of signal transmission solutions for wired and wireless enterprise networks, as well as the industrial, broadcast, residential and security markets, announces the addition of a 12-port Wireless LAN Switch to its existing 8-port and 24-port switch offerings. The WLAN switches are a key component of the Belden Wireless Solution: an innovative Layer-2 Edge Architecture/Channel Blanket System designed to help users achieve a guaranteed and predictable rate of wireless connectivity and Quality of Service.

In the Belden Wireless System, the Switches (Part Nos. BWS-8008, BWS-8012 and BWS-8024) take care of the IP-packet processing of all wireless communications. Unique to the Belden Channel Blanket solution, sophisticated scheduling algorithms are used dynamically to allocate capacity to clients, i.e., allowing the same channel to be transmitted from every Access Point in the system without co-channel interference. The Switches also create multiple Channel Blankets to deploy any number of Belden XtraThin(TM) Access Points (APs). As a result, organizations can tailor the WLAN configuration to support different types of users and applications, all at the same time, without the performance trade-offs typically demanded in traditional wireless LAN installations. In addition, all three versions of the Belden Switch can be used alone - or they can be daisy-chained in a networked configuration to achieve the users' scalability goals.

The Switches meet all applicable industry standards for WLAN (IEEE 802.11 a/b/g) and Ethernet connectivity, and have Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) built-in, eliminating the need for a midspan or endspan device.

About the Belden Wireless Solution
The Belden Wireless Solution offers a robust architecture that is fundamentally different from that of standard WLANs, which use cell-based technologies requiring complex RF Cell Planning to avoid co-channel interference. Belden's Wireless Solution is a Layer-2 Edge solution with a unique Channel Blanket topology to allow each radio channel to be used everywhere, at every Access Point, thereby creating blankets of continuous wireless coverage with no roaming latency or co-channel interference problems. The solution provides for the seamless convergence of data, video and voice (VoWLAN) and is future-proofed for Voice over WiFi. It is exceptionally easy to deploy, configure and maintain and provides consistently high throughput and predictable Quality of Service even when cell traffic is high.

Security concerns are addressed by compliance with IEEE 802.11i (also known as WPA2) for authentication as well as encryption. The system set up also allows for Rogue AP detection. Advanced levels of security are available through Belden eco-system partners such as AirTight® Networks.
