Siemens Scalance(TM) W786 LAN Access Point Operates in Extreme Environments

ATLANTA, Feb. 11 -- Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. announced the introduction of the Scalance(TM) W786 wireless LAN Access Point designed to operate in harsh and humid outdoor environments where temperatures range from -40 to 70°C.

Available in both one and two radio module variations, the Scalance W786 LAN Access Point features a 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet Port (RJ45) or 100Mbit/s fiber optic cable (ST connector) for connection to wire-bound Ethernet networks.

The condensation-resistant access point is compatible with other wireless products, including Siemens HIPATH wireless controller, and allows voice and data networks to merge into a converged network within harsh plant environments. The robust plastic housing of the access point helps deliver superior IP 65 protection against dust, water and foreign bodies. Internal and external antennas are available.

In the event an access point needs to be replaced in the case of a fault, an optional C-PLUG configuration plug ensures fast device swap out with minimal downtime. With data rates of up to 54 Mbps and open standards of security all in one device, the Scalance W786 LAN Access Point operates at speeds of 2.4 GHz (802.11b and 802.11g) or 5 GHz (802.11a).

The access point is power-over-Ethernet (IEEE 802.11af) compliant with 12-24 Vdc and 110-240 Vac options. It also offers IEEE 802.11i or Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA2) and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with 128-bit encryptions for security.
