Cirronet Delivers First 5.8 GHz Wireless OEM Module

New OEM Module Avoids Congestion Issues With Other Crowded Bands

SAN JOSE, CA - (September 23, 2002) - Cirronet(tm), Inc., a leading provider of wireless transceivers and broadband Internet access products, today announced the WIT5811, the first 5.8 GHz wireless OEM transceiver module on the market. With the new WIT5811, designers and engineering managers can gain the robust performance of Cirronet's patented frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technology while avoiding interfering with 802.11b networks in lower bands.

"The WIT5811 opens an attractive new dimension for wireless networks in industrial environments," said Tim Cutler, Cirronet's vice president of sales and marketing. "Congestion due to wireless devices operating in the 2.4GHz and 900MHz bands is no longer an issue."

With an asynchronous serial interface, the WIT5811 integrates easily into new and existing product designs to supply wireless communications capability at up to 1.23 Mbps. Incorporating Cirronet's patented FHSS technology, the WIT5811 offers superior
communications performance for factory and industrial applications. The WIT5811's 250 mW of transmit power provides a 900 foot range indoors, over 3,000 feet outdoors, or more than five miles with optional gain antennas. For maximum flexibility, the WIT5811 supports both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint (star) network configurations. WIT5811 modules are FCC certified. WIT5811 is an addition to the company's product family of wireless industrial transceiver OEM modules, which include WIT2400 and WIT2411.

General availability is planned for the fourth quarter of 2002. A developer's kit, which includes WIT5811 modules, standalone battery operated modems and associated software, is available directly from Cirronet.
