RightTag Unveils BT RIGHTreader, Industry's First Bluetooth-Enabled Wireless RFID Scanner

New Access Control Scanner Also Added to RightTag's Suite of RFID Solutions

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 27 /-- RightTag, Inc., a leading provider of comprehensive wireless and wireline RFID solutions, today announced the availability of the industry's first 13.56 MHz wireless radio-frequency identification scanner with Bluetooth. The new scanner, BT RIGHTreader, offers users greater flexibility by eliminating the need for cumbersome wires and transmitting data to devices up to ten meters (~10 yards) away. RightTag also announced today the RIGHTscanner, a compact and inexpensive RFID scanner designed for companies looking to increase security and control and monitor access, or to better track product inventory.

The 13.56 MHz BT RIGHTreader is an easy-to-use and durable wireless scanner that can transmit data from any RFID tag, including ISO 15693, ISO 14443, USB and Serial port communications, to any Bluetooth-enabled device. The device is battery operated, and is fully functional in temperatures varying from -20 degrees Celsius (-4 degrees Fahrenheit) to 55 degrees Celsius (131 degrees Fahrenheit). The 1MHz bandwidth antenna can read tags as far as 16 centimeters (~6 inches) away and transmits to a Bluetooth receiver up to ten meters' distance, making BT RIGHTreader the most robust and flexible RFID offering available in the market.

The standards-compliant, software-driven BT RIGHTreader can be easily upgraded to read forthcoming tags, making it a cost-effective and long term investment that will help companies improve inventory control and reduce tracking costs. Like all RightTag devices, the BT RIGHTreader can both read and encode RFID tags so users can quickly and easily update information on inventory items.

"With the BT RIGHTreader, companies now have access to a flexible and durable wireless RFID solution that can help improve inventory control and reduce tracking costs in even the most challenging environments," said Harish Chander, president and CEO, RightTag. "Moreover, all of RightTag's RFID solutions are built on our patent-pending firmware that allows for fast software-only upgrades done via the Web, making RightTag a strategic, cost-effective investment for the long term."

The RIGHTscanner is a small and inexpensive RFID reader that is ideal for security and access control as well as cashless payments, point-of-sale and library applications. The RIGHTscanner can both read and encode any RFID tag, so organizations can reap the benefits of faster and tighter inventory control by eliminating human error and reducing shrinkage or diversion. Both the RIGHTscanner and BT RIGHTreader perform well in harsh environments with no line of sight, making them effective in places where bar-coding is not an option.

Proximities, the leading developer of secure RFID wristbands, is using RightTag RFID solutions to power its GO(TM) System which addresses the problems caused by long lines, crowds, congestion and other sources of inefficiency and frustration at entertainment venues. "RightTag has provided us an affordable, flexible RFID solution that helps differentiate our offering and give us a competitive advantage," said Christopher Wenneman, director of Engineering at Proximities. "We evaluated other offerings in the market and found RightTag to be the most cost-effective provider with the most comprehensive offerings for both wireless and wireline RFID solutions."

Pricing and Availability

The RightTag BT RIGHTreader lists at $599.00 per unit. The RightTag RIGHTscanner access control device lists at $425.00. Both products are immediately available.
