FreeWave Introduces New IM-E500 Wireless Spread Spectrum Radio for Mission Critical Military Applications

Newest Board-Level Radio Offers Increased Throughput, Speed, Reliability and Security for Military OEMs

BOULDER, Colo., Aug. 28 // -- FreeWave Technologies, a leader in reliable, high-throughput spread spectrum radio products and services, today announced the IM-E500, a new board-level, wireless spread spectrum radio designed specifically for military applications.

Like all of FreeWave's family of military products, the new IM-E500 is designed to meet the rigorous demands of military and government users worldwide. As a board-level product, the IM-E500 provides outstanding performance and versatility in a small footprint that makes it ideally suited for OEM applications. In addition, it offers military customers a cost-effective solution by allowing them to incorporate wireless communications into a wide variety of applications, such as unmanned vehicles, robotics and UAVs.

"The IM-E500 complements FreeWave's broad line of military solutions, such as our recently announced family of 1.3 GHz radios," explained Colin Lippincott, vice president of sales and marketing for FreeWave. "We design our products to have the highest reliability and throughput of any radio in the market. This especially is important for the military market -- because it's not just about mission critical industrial applications -- it's about life or death situations. The IM-E500 addresses this challenge at a cost and footprint size that offers the greatest value among all wireless spread spectrum offerings in the market today."

The new FreeWave IM-E500 radio offers spread spectrum frequencies between 2.372 to 2.4 GHz as well as a number of other new features designed specifically for the military market. New features include:

o Frequency Hopping -- important for transmitting highly sensitive data.
o High speed -- 115.2 Kbps true throughput (188 Kbps over the air).
o Long range capabilities -- up to 20 miles, which can be extended through repeaters.
o Extreme reliability through error free communications -- data is
securely transmitted via 32-bit CRC with user-defined automatic
transmission.
o Industrial Grade specifications -- 100 percent tested for full
performance from -40 degrees Centigrade to +75 degrees Centigrade.
o Bundled solution -- the repeater and simultaneous Slave and Repeater
functions are all contained within one radio.
o Improved supply voltage range and reduced power consumption -- besides
increased power supply, the new IM-E500 offers a low power mode that
consumes on 5 mA. A unit in low power mode will wake up, synchronize
with the network and accept data in less than 150 milliseconds.
o Best-in-class diagnostics and a separate diagnostic serial connector --
that allows for real-time local diagnostics and set-up menu access as
well as signal level in dBm and transmit current.
o And the same standard features contained in all FreeWave FGR Series radios, including:
o Dual RS-485/RS-232 Interface
o Noise Immunity
o Secure communications through spread spectrum technology

The IM-E500 is available for immediate shipment. For more information, visit FreeWave's Website at www.freewave.com or call the company at (303) 444-3862.
