D-Link® Announces Wireless Networking Products Compliant with IEEE Draft 802.11n Technology Specification

New D-Link RangeBooster N(TM) 650 Boasts Broader Coverage and Ethernet-Like Speed for Next-Generation Wireless Experience

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., April 5 / -- D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumers and business, today announced that its first products based on Draft 802.11n technology will be available this month, providing greater real-world throughput, range and security in wireless home and office environments at speeds that mirror wired Ethernet networks.

The D-Link RangeBooster N(TM) 650 series of wireless routers and network adapters incorporate the latest features made possible by IEEE's 802.11n Draft specifications which, when officially ratified by the organization, will serve as the new high-performance industry standard for wireless networking with seamless interoperability and compatibility with existing and future products, including ease of installation and use.

By offering the new Draft 802.11n products early, D-Link is able to meet increasing customer demand for faster data throughput speeds, broader wireless coverage and increased stability in the home and small office/home office (SOHO) with heavier data traffic and bandwidth-intensive applications.

D-Link's RangeBooster N 650 routers and adapters make up the Platinum Plus Series, part of the company's extensive family of tiered wireless networking products, giving users more choices and benefits of a high-quality wireless environment. The D-Link wireless networking range of product choices include the:

o Platinum Plus Series -- products for consumers looking to get whole
home coverage and ultimate network performance, designed for large file
transfers and multimedia streaming
o Platinum Series -- products for consumers interested in fast, secure
network connections
o Gold Series -- products for the security-minded consumer
o Wireless G Series -- products for consumers wanting quick and easy
wireless connectivity
o GamerLounge Series -- products designed specifically for online gamers

Ratification of the IEEE 802.11n standard has been eagerly anticipated for more than three years as manufacturers seek to deliver higher data throughput speeds for wireless networks. The standard's goal is to equal and/or surpass 100 megabits per second (Mbps) speeds, typical of conventional Ethernet network connections.

"It is very important to us that our customers have state-of-art choices in their buying decisions, whether they are first-time wireless home users or small-to-medium-sized business owners who require more advanced installations," said Steven Joe, president and CEO of D-Link. "Our new RangeBooster N 650 is the perfect wireless platform for consumers looking for ultimate performance from their wireless network. It is designed to deliver more than enough bandwidth and range to handle intensive transfers of video, voice, data and next-generation media and content streaming to all corners of their digital home."

The D-Link RangeBooster N 650 products will be first on the market to be powered by the AR5008 chipset, based on the Draft 802.11n specifications, from Atheros Communications, Inc. of Santa Clara, Calif.

When the IEEE Draft 802.11n specifications were agreed upon last January, industry analyst Craig J. Mathias, a principal with the wireless and mobile advisory firm Farpoint Group in Ashland, Mass., said:

"It's more clear than ever that MIMO is the most important radio technology today -- and perhaps ever." Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) is a smart-antenna technology that uses multiple antennas to transmit and receive wireless signals, resulting in more robust connections over a larger coverage area in the home or office.

The new D-Link RangeBooster N 650 router and the other wireless products in the D-Link family are sold with the new D-Link Installation Wizard, an easy-to-follow software interface that guides customers through every step, from plugging in the necessary cables to entering a personalized password for network security.
