Zultys Raises the Stakes as VoIP Goes Wireless

Powerful WIP 2 WiFi phone takes IP telephony beyond the desktop

SUNNYVALE, Calif., 25 July 2005 - Zultys Technologies today added another member to its family of award-winning VoIP products by announcing the release of the WIP 2 wireless IP phone. The WIP 2 delivers the full functionality and ease of use of a desktop IP phone in a handy mobile format, providing seamless connectivity as users roam throughout an enterprise.

"Nearly 80% of our customers have asked us about WiFi VoIP products," explained Iain Milnes, President of Zultys Technologies. "They tell us they would like the ability to take their desktop IP phone with them rather than have a second mobile unit with reduced capability. Other WiFi IP phones coming into the market today don't provide users with enough features or sufficient battery life. The WIP 2 excels in all areas."

The WIP 2 wireless IP phone contains all of the features and functionality found in the ZIP 2x2 desktop IP phone, announced in March of this year. The WIP 2 is built entirely on open standards and runs on a highly stable real time Linux operating system. The phone is compatible with any IP telephony system using SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), providing customers with greater flexibility in their telephony system choices. The WIP 2 provides two call appearances and supports voice encryption, paging, 3-way conferencing, presence, instant messaging, and all standard telephony functions. This makes the WIP 2 ideal for a number of different applications and environments.

The WIP 2 is unique in its ability to give users significant talk and standby time. The phone provides better battery life than any product on the market, giving users 4 hours of continuous talk time and 12 hours of standby time. The phone makes it easy for a user to access all commonly used functions, such as hold, transfer, and DND.

As with their award-winning ZIP desktop phones, the WIP 2 incorporates Zultys' patented jitter buffer for superior speech quality even under network conditions that are less than ideal. In speaker-phone mode, full duplex acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) ensures optimal sound quality. Users can dial a destination by phone number, SIP address, or IP address. A SIP address can be abbreviated, for example to "sales." Hot key dialing allows users to review and edit the destination address prior to calling. The integral phone book allows entries to be easily searched, inserted, modified, and deleted.

Another clever feature is the way the phone handles paging. The paging feature is supported on the MX family of IP PBX products from Zultys. Using a single button on the WIP 2, a user can initiate paging to a group, thereby emulating "push to talk" capabilities within the enterprise. Such a feature is invaluable in construction areas, medical facilities, or any other organizations where immediate communications is mandatory.

The WIP 2 from Zultys presents a new challenge to traditional telephone systems as it liberates IP telephony from the office desk. Employees can go about their business while retaining full control of their availability and communications. The phone's presence feature will indicate whether the user is available, in a meeting, on the phone, or on the move. The WIP 2 can equally be used as an extension to an existing office system or as a cost effective way to provide phone service prior to cabling a site.

Pricing and Availability

The WIP 2 is in trials now with quantity shipments beginning in September. Pricing for the WIP 2 will also be announced in September.
