Meraki Expands Cloud Managed AP Portfolio, Modernizing Outdoor Wireless Networks

Meraki Introduces MR62 and MR66 Wireless APs, Allowing Integrated Management, Security, and Performance to Outdoor Networks

SAN FRANCISCO, -- Meraki, the leader in Cloud Networking, today introduced two new outdoor 802.11n cloud controlled wireless access points (APs), bringing a new generation of integrated management, security, and performance to WiFi networks in harsh outdoor and industrial indoor environments.

Designed for Dense, Harsh Outdoor and Industrial Indoor WiFi Networks

The Meraki MR62 and MR66 are designed for the challenges of modern outdoor wireless LANs, including high client density, insecure devices, bandwidth-intensive applications, rugged conditions and limited Ethernet cabling. Key features include:

-- Powerful radio platform: up to 600 Mbps throughput, Gigabit Ethernet ports (802.3af PoE compatible), and extra CPU and memory to handle over 100 clients per AP

-- Layer 7 Application Traffic Shaping to throttle apps like BitTorrent while prioritizing voice and video

-- Ultra-high performance, self-healing mesh routing for hard-to-wire areas and point-to-point links

-- Built-in network access control (NAC) to secure the network from viruses and intrusion

-- Water and dust sealed ruggedized enclosure

The MR66 features two concurrent radios, with speeds up to 600 Mbps for the most demanding environments. The single-radio MR62, with speeds up to 300 Mbps, is designed for value-oriented outdoor WLANs. Both access points feature a sleek, attractive industrial design and include a complete mounting kit.

Complete Enterprise Management and Security Features

Historically, outdoor wireless APs have lacked the capacity, management and security sophistication of their indoor counterparts. The MR62 and MR66 break from this tradition, providing complete enterprise-class centralized management and security out of the box without sacrificing performance. Cloud-based centralized management enables customers to rapidly deploy outdoor networks of any size. Meraki's integrated security features, including a stateful policy firewall, application firewall, and rogue AP detection, enable PCI and HIPAA-compliant outdoor WLANs without an overlay wireless security system - making the MR62 and MR66 perfect for outdoor courtyards in hospitals or retail spaces.

Selected for 2011 Monterey Jazz Festival, will connect tens of thousands of attendees

The MR66 has been selected for the upcoming Monterey Jazz Festival, one of the world's largest jazz festivals, which starts September 16th in Monterey, CA. Tens of thousands of fans at the 20-acre Monterey Fairgrounds will connect to the WiFi network from iPads and smartphones to access festival information, stream audio feeds, and share photos throughout the three-day event.

The Alvarez Technology Group, who is responsible for the festival's network, beta-tested the MR66. "We know there will be huge capacity requirements at the festival," said Luis Alvarez, President and CEO of Alvarez Technology Group. "The MR66 was designed for capacity, and it has proven capable of supporting large numbers of clients and bandwidth-intensive applications. And thanks to the Meraki Cloud Controller, the MR66 self-provisions and self-optimizes, making deployment a snap."

The MR62 (list price $699) and MR66 (list price $1299) are available for immediate order through Meraki authorized resellers.
