New Compact EP 2.5 Wire-To-Board Connector from TE Integrates up to 20 Positions in a PCB Section

HARRISBURG, Pa. - TE Connectivity (TE), formerly Tyco Electronics, has developed a new type of single-row Economy Power (EP) connector -- the EP 2.5 connector. This new wire-to-board crimp connector includes new housings, contacts and headers on a .100 centerline (2.5 mm pitch) to offer a compact product solution. The connector is tested for secondary power circuit applications with contacts rated for 250 VAC at 3 Amps and offers the option of combining power and signal in a single connector solution. The connector is intermateable with similar products in the market for simple retrofitting. The EP 2.5 connector's plug and receptacle are available in 2 to 20 positions and can be used to integrate up to 20 discrete wires (in 22 to 26 AWG sizes) in a single, small PC board section. As board space is often at a premium, the EP 2.5 connector offers ideal conditions for connecting power circuits in densely packed circuit boards. Users will find it easy to establish a correct and reliable interconnection during assembly as the connector includes asymmetrically-shaped, low-insertion force terminals that can be loaded in the housing cavity in only one way. The headers are shrouded and housings have polarization tabs to prevent post misalignment and other problems caused by forcefully mating connector halves in an incorrect way. Additionally, a positive locking lever on the outside of the plug's housing engages with its counterpart on the receptacle's housing during mating to establish a mechanical lock, which produces an audible click to confirm full mating of the connector. The EP 2.5 connector is UL recognized and can be used at operating temperatures between -55 °C and 105 °C. Its housing is made from UL 94V-0 rated plastic and is available in multiple colors upon request. The socket contacts are tin-plated phosphorous bronze. To help prevent fretting corrosion and whisker formation, the contacts are lubricated. Additional information about the new EP 2.5 connectors is available at: www.te.com/products/EP.
