Agiecut Progress Cuts at 47 in²/hr. Utilizing New IPG Generator Technology, New eCut Feature Reduces Filter, Resin and Wire Consumption 40% or More

Davidson, NC - The Agiecut Progress 2, capable of producing the industry's fastest wire-cutting speeds (47 in²/hr.using coated wire), was introduced at an open house June 19-20 at Agie Ltd.'s U.S. manufacturing headquarters in Davidson, NC. In addition, the Progress can cut at speeds up to 37 in²/hr. - until recently the industry standard - using standard brass wire, thus vastly reducing the cost of high speed Wire EDM. With the new IPG generator, these cutting speeds are attainable in a wide range of cutting heights. And unlike competitive systems, the Progress can achieve high speeds even in the tightest radii due to Agie's unique Dynamic Corner Control.

Other standard features on the Progress improve speed in another way - by reducing idle times from cut to cut. With a 120 in/min positioning speed and a 15 second wire threading time, the Progress has greatly reduced all non-erosion related barriers to speed. The Agiecut "V" guide permits threading of all wire sizes and types (never requiring annealing after a break) and allows taper cutting of ±30°. A wire bending control feature, which is standard on the Progress, also detects and corrects wire bending in real time for accurate workpieces. Another unique ifeature, Variocut, performs real-time detection of the workpiece cross-section and automatically optimizes generator power.

The Progress's new eCut generator technology makes it possible to get surface finishes as good as 0.8 µm Ra with one precision cut - a process that is completed in half the time required by technologies that incorporate a main cut and trim cut. In addition, the faster precision cut requires 40% less filter and resin and results in 60% less wire consumption. The precision cut also reduces the number of trim cuts needed for surface finishes of 0.2 to 0.7 µm Ra.

The Progress is built on the same platform as all Agie wire-cut systems and includes a rigid C-frame construction and a dual measuring system that continuously measures and corrects the axis positions to achieve accuracy in the µm range. These features and many others on the Agie systems guarantee performance that is solidly sustainable over the life of the machine. A small footprint and automation-readiness make the Progress a versatile choice for shops of all sizes.
