Products Address Increasing Need for Storm Protection

BAYPORT, Minn. (Jan. 21, 2003) - Architects and builders now can select from a variety of impact-resistant, energy-efficient Andersen products designed to meet new building code requirements now being enforced in many Gulf and Atlantic coast states. Andersen windows and doors feature a broad selection of styles, shapes and sizes that provide increased storm protection for the home.

"Architects and contractors can feel confident that Andersen's impact-resistant products have been thoroughly tested to perform to the requirements of these new codes," said Phil Donaldson, vice president of marketing and business development at Andersen. "Unlike shutters or other temporary storm protection measures, Andersen impact-resistant windows and doors provide continuous protection from high wind events - 24 hours a day, seven days a week while they beautify homes and commercial buildings."

The expanded selection of impact-resistant windows and doors combines Andersen's high standards of product quality and design with advanced glass, sash and jamb technologies to satisfy wind-borne debris, product performance and energy requirements in New York, Florida, Texas and other states now enforcing new codes. Available features and options include:

o High-Performance(TM) energy-efficient, impact-resistant glass for protection from wind-borne debris
o Performance ratings that will meet or exceed most local code requirements
o Andersen® Perma-Shield® exterior cladding system to resist the effects of salt water and sea air without chipping, peeling or corroding
o Optional corrosion-resistant hardware to keep windows and doors looking and operating like new
o Sash, lock, and hinge reinforcements for added strength and security

Andersen's expanded selection of impact-resistant windows & doors will be available in early 2003 for select Andersen 400 Series products including casement and specialty windows, Frenchwood® gliding patio doors, and skylights. Additional window and door styles and options will be available later in 2003.

In addition to offering the expanded selection, Andersen is offering training seminars for contractors, architects, and retailers, as well as resources such as a guidebook - available in the second quarter of 2003 - that lists the design pressure ratings of all Andersen's products.
