New Overhead Door Residential and Commercial Wind Load Garage Doors Enhance Protection Options for Coastal Homes and Businesses

Miami-Dade Certified Wind Load Doors Now Available

LEWISVILLE, TEXAS — Coastal region businesses and homeowners no longer have to compromise attractive design for strength when choosing a garage door to protect their properties. New commercial and residential wind load options now available from Overhead Door Corporation offer property owners the ability to choose among the latest garage door styles, while still meeting stringent building codes.

Lewisville, Texas-based Overhead Door and its nationwide network of Ribbon garage door distributors now offer more comprehensive lines of commercial and residential high-wind and hurricane-rated wind load garage doors. The products are designed and built with options available to meet the nation’s most demanding building codes, including Miami-Dade County, Florida, where high winds and hurricanes are a seasonal occurrence.

“We know that property protection is always a concern for those who live and work in coastal regions, no matter what time of year it is,” said Janet Thompson, wind load product manager at Overhead Door. “We take those concerns seriously, which is why our new commercial and residential wind load doors are built with options available to withstand the impacts and high winds that can arise in tropical storm and hurricane prone cities.”

While each of Overhead Door’s new commercial and residential wind load doors are designed to enhance a structure’s existing architecture, they are also designed to act as an important safeguard. During high-wind events, debris can become powerful projectiles that can damage the garage door, reducing the door's ability to protect the home against damaging winds. Garage doors without reinforcement can buckle under the pressure, giving the high winds access to the interior of the structure. This often results in the roof members and wall panels being blown apart, allowing rain, wind and debris to have easy access inside.

Overhead Door’s new wind load garage doors are constructed of steel and polyurethane insulation to offer both thermal efficiency and storm protection. Wind load-rated for up to +64.00 / -72.00 psf depending on the door’s size, they are impact resistant and available in a variety of panel options, paint finishes, textured finishes and wood grain finishes.

Businesses or residents located in an area prone to high winds can count on WindStorm™ doors, ordered with proper wind load options, to provide reliable protection against high wind damage without sacrificing fine craftsmanship, durability and style. Overhead Door’s new residential and commercial doors come standard with a minimum wind load option. Higher wind load and impact options are also available.

The new commercial wind load garage doors from Overhead Door are the Thermacore® models 515 and 525.  The new residential wind load garage doors include Thermacore® series’ 5745 and 5765 as well as the Courtyard Collection® series 7565. The doors are available in a range of panel styles including carriage house designs on the new Courtyard Collection® series. The commercial Thermacore® 515, residential Thermacore® 5745 series and the Courtyard Collection® 7565 all feature a calculated R-value of 12.12. The commercial Thermacore® 525 and residential Thermacore® 5765 series feature a calculated R-value of 16.22.
