Winbond Strikes with New Applications for Windows SideShow

LOS ANGELES, May 15 // -- Winbond Electronics Corporation (TSE: 2344), www.winbond.com, introduced
its continuous support of the Windows SideShow feature of Windows Vista, at the WinHEC show here in Los Angeles. Winbond's drive for innovative solutions, exploiting a broad portfolio of in-house technologies, has created a line of new applications based on the advanced controller for SideShow
(WPCE521L) device and its associated firmware. These applications work with Windows Vista to provide customers with new features that enhance their "information touch" experiences.

SideShow solutions enable users to interact with the Windows Vista operating system through the use of "gadgets", tiny applications developed within the Windows Vista environment that enable truly remote access to information and applications. Realized in a variety of forms, with displays from a tiny 2.5" QVGA up to full-size SVGA, these SideShow products communicate with the host system either through wired USB or wireless channels and can use a range of input devices. Displays can be either classical LCDs or new Electronic Paper Display (EPD) types with extremely low power consumption.

"We leverage Winbond's position as a major supplier of PC components and solutions, and our long experience in working with all the leading OEMs and ODMs, to provide to our customers with a portfolio of SideShow solutions and applications that complement and differentiate their products" said Zeev Heller, senior director of marketing for Winbond, "By working together with Microsoft we were able to define and design these new applications to fully comply with the Windows SideShow concept and exploit all its benefits. Our strategic relations with Microsoft result in new concepts and solutions that benefit our customers".

"The combination of Winbond's controller for SideShow with the Windows SideShow technology adds exciting possibilities for Windows Vista users,"
said Dan Polivy, Program Manager for Windows SideShow at Microsoft. "The Winbond controller for SideShow helps Microsoft develop and demonstrate new SideShow concept solutions."
