New Cat® 950G and 962G Series II Wheel Loaders Offer Productivity, Fuel Economy, Lower Operating Costs

Caterpillar introduces the 950G and 962G Series II Wheel Loaders, designed for contractors, aggregates producers and other earthmoving professionals who value high productivity and low operating costs. Both models feature a new fuel-efficient, low-emissions engine; an updated cooling system that improves performance and is easier to maintain; numerous environmental enhancements; and a redesigned operator's station that sets a new standard for comfort and efficiency.

The 950G II delivers 183 net horsepower (136 kilowatts). Its operating weight is about 39,200 pounds (17 780 kilograms), and it can be equipped with buckets ranging in size from 3.5 to 4.5 cubic yards (2.7 to 3.5 cubic meters).

The 962G II is rated at 204 net horsepower (152 kilowatts). It has an operating weight of 40,889 pounds (18 547 kilograms) and works productively with 3.75 to 5.0 cubic yard (2.9 to 3.8 cubic meter) buckets.

Advanced power train technology
A Cat 3126B diesel engine with air-to-air aftercooling provides power for both new machines. The engine meets worldwide emissions regulations through 2005. It features the Caterpillars ADEM III (Advanced Diesel Engine Management) fuel system, a proprietary control module that improves performance, increases fuel efficiency, reduces emissions and aids the diagnostic process. The control module also allows the 950G II and 962G II to be operated at altitudes as high as 10,000 feet (3050 meters) without deration. In addition, G-Series II engines are integrated with an on-demand cooling fan. The engine compensates for varying fan loads and provides constant net horsepower, regardless of operating conditions.

The G-Series II machines are equipped with a planetary electronic power shift transmission with four speeds forward, four reverse. The transmission's automatic shift capability allows on-the-go speed and directional changes. Electronic Clutch Pressure Control modulates the clutches individually for smoother shifting and longer clutch life. The Integrated Braking System performs transmission neutralizing and downshifting
functions when the left brake pedal is applied. This enhances performance, productivity and brake life.

High-performance cooling system, environmental features
A new cooling package on the G-Series II machines reduces radiator plugging and improves fuel efficiency. The system incorporates a reverse-flow design, pulling air through the rear grill and sending it out the top and sides of the machine. Rear air flow picks up less debris from the ground, reducing plugging. The new cooling system also features a swing-out grill, hydraulic oil cooler and air conditioner condenser, plus easy-access radiator cores that minimize maintenance time and increase uptime.

The on-demand fan reduces fuel consumption and sound levels. Other features that make the G-Series II machines environmentally friendly include the low-emissions engine, oil sampling valves that minimize spills, Caterpillar Extended Life
Coolant/Antifreeze and CFC-free refrigerant. Spin-on filter elements are positioned vertically and located for easy access. Standard ecology drains for the engine, transmission, radiator and fuel system help prevent leaks and spills.

Comfortable work environment
The cab on the G-Series II loaders is designed for comfort and efficiency. Low-effort steering and implement controls, an adjustable seat, a tilt steering column and dual brake pedals enhance productivity. A wider front window provides an excellent viewing area. The windshield wiper sweep area has been increased. A new monitoring system keeps the operator informed about machine system status and provides four warning categories. The left side door can now be opened from ground level or inside the cab. Storage space has been increased, the ventilation system has been improved and a new floor design allows faster, easier cleaning.

Command Control Steering, which integrates the steering wheel and transmission controls, is available as an option. This arrangement comes with electro-hydraulic implement controls and a new Cat Comfort air suspension seat.

Versatile and serviceable
The G-Series II wheel loaders can be equipped with a variety of Cat buckets and Ground Engaging Tool options to match virtually any application. An optional factory-installed quick coupler and a large selection of Cat work tools make the machines even more versatile. High lift configurations are available for applications that require increased dump clearance.

The two new models are also highly serviceable. Maintenance points are grouped and accessible from the ground. Remote grease lines culminate in two convenient central lube points. U-joints are lifetime lubricated, so the slip joint is the only driveline component that needs grease. The engine is readily accessible via the tilting hood. Engine oil change intervals are extended to 500 hours with the use of CH-4 oil. The factory-installed coolant (Cat Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze) provides protection for up to 6,000 hours. An internal indicator tracks brake wear. The Computerized Monitoring System stores critical information to aid in diagnostics and repair.

An optional wireless communication system called Product Link is available as a factory- or dealer-installed attachment for both new wheel loaders. Product Link uses satellite technology and the Internet to provide machine location, service meter hour and
product health information. The system is a valuable fleet management tool that helps improve availability and increase uptime.
