The My Book Pro Edition II with 1.5 terabyte storage will be company's main highlight

Western Digital (WD) Corporation, a leading global hard drive manufacturer, is gearing up to showcase its newest additions to its range of external hard drives at GITEX Technology Week which will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from September 8 to 12. The company will be participating in the premier IT event in partnership with FDC and Redington Gulf.

The highlight of WD's participation at GITEX 2007 will be the showcase of its new MyBook Pro storage appliances that allow users to add massive backup storage for their business files, music, videos, photos and games. The new storage system provides users a safe place to secure as much as 1.5 terabytes of digital content. The MyBook Pro Edition II uses RAID technology to instantaneously duplicate user data for extra protection or to accelerate the delivery of data to users.

The MyBook Pro Edition II system can be set to reserve half of its capacity to mirror users' data in real time using RAID technology. This means that when data is saved to the MyBook Pro Edition II system, two copies of the data are instantaneously recorded - each on separate internal hard drives. RAID 1 ensures the safety of users' data because, in the unlikely event that one of the hard drives inside fails, the other drive will read and write data until the faulty drive is replaced and rebuilt to once again safely mirror the data.

Hafeez Khawaja, WD's Senior Regional Director, Middle East, Africa, South Asia, said, "Our participation in GITEX over the years along with our partners has proved extremely beneficial in maximizing awareness for our range of new-age hard drives. The demand for internal and external hard drives in the region continues to rise steadily, and customers are particular about purchasing hard drives that offer maximum data protection."

"The MyBook Pro Edition II, which we will be displaying at GITEX, is designed for small-office environments where large amounts of content is managed, as well as for consumers who have vast, highly valuable libraries of music, photos and video. The MyBook Pro Edition II series of external drives are extremely simple to use, come with massive storage capacities, triple interface and an efficient and user-friendly backup software," added Khawaja.

At GITEX Technology Week, WD will also highlight other key products, including the next-generation WD Passport® drives. WD's newly redesigned WD Passport Portable Drives have grown in storage capacity and have shrunk in physical size, and are now shipping. Featuring a stylish, ultra-portable design and sleek, piano-black finish, WD Passport is available in capacities of 60, 80, 120, 160 and 250 GB, fits easily into pockets or purses and weighs less than 5 ounces and is powered via the USB interface.

WD's products will be displayed at their partner stands G10-1 and C3-35. Senior officials and experts from FDC and Redington Gulf will be on hand to interact with trade visitors, corporate clients and the media, and provide hands-on demonstrations on different products.
